There seems to exist a common factor that links the fabulously conflicted villain from Spider-Man to the astrophysics expert in Dark Matter. The executive producer of Dark Matter, Matt Tolmach, makes Jason Dessen and Norman Osborne stand in the same boat.

Matt Tolmach is the man behind The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and hence he recently brought out a similarity between Green Goblin and Jason Dessen. It’s quite impressive how he references a new character with a character that first appeared in 2002, almost 22 years before.

Recently, the executive producer of the new upcoming sci-fi television series Dark Matter, Tolmach, found a similarity between Spider-Man‘s Green Goblin and Dark Matter‘s Jason Dessen. In a recent interview with Gamesradar+, Tolmach revealed the interesting connection between Green Goblin and Jason Dessen.

Green Goblin was a scientific overreach in the 2002 movie Spider-Man and in the same way, Jason Dessen is also a scientist in the upcoming 2024 television series Dark Matter. Both characters share the same profession, to begin with.

Later, Tolmach also mentioned that just like Green Goblin, Dessen as a scientist will also reach great heights, and then mishaps will start happening. Tomalch told the outlet:

“Green Goblin is a fabulously conflicted character. It’s interesting that you reference him because, in the great Marvel villain tradition, he’s a scientific overreach and that is his mistake. Dark Matter is obviously about a scientist who overreaches, and as scientists will, he reaches as far as he can, and then the chips sort of fall and in the case of Dark Matter, it was just such a relatable [story] in the context of our world and a family that resembles I could identify with.”

Tolmach’s revelation about Joe Edgerton’s (Jason Dessen in Dark Matter) connection with Green Goblin not only brings back a lot of memories but also creates excitement about the character in the upcoming show.

From the genre of sci-fi, creator Blake Crouch comes ahead with a television series called Dark Matter. The series is an adaptation of the eponymous 2016 novel. Interestingly, the novel was written by Blake Crouch only and he himself claimed that the adaptation took a better form than the novel.

The series features Australian actor and filmmaker Joel Edgerton as Jason Dessen, an astrophysics expert. In the series, Edgerton talks about one of the mysteries in modern physics called the dark matter. The show’s scope is obviously grand in terms of intellect, however is dramatically personal too.

Not just the thoughtful scientific concepts, what brings more worth to the show is the acting of Edgerton. Casting Edgerton, without a doubt, is the best decision taken by the showrunners. His performance itself brings an intense depth and complexity to character identities. The show is for sure a gripping thriller and the creator is positive about its success as of now.

Dark Matter premieres on Apple TV+ on May 8.
