Sports manga is one of the leading genres in the anime industry and if the hype for Blue Lock is anything to go by, sports mangas are here to stay for good. Blue Lock Season 1 covered half of the currently published manga source, meaning the second season will most likely adapt volumes 12-23. At the end of Season 1, Kunigami failed to make it to the Second Selection, leaving Yoichi alone without his best friend. After the events of Season 1, the main core players are expected to advance to the Third Selection Round.

8-bit, the producer of Blue Lock, announced on May 6, 2024, that the season 2 release date is in October 2024. Interestingly, the announcement date coincided with Seishiro Nagi’s birthday, the protagonist of the movie, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi. The animation team also released a special sketch that features Isagi in the spotlight, with Nagi and Reo Mikage stepping out of the pitch.

However, fans are not happy with the official poster of Blue Lock Season 2 and are majorly concerned with the creative decisions. The poster features Rin Itoshi and Isagi Yoichi, with auras radiating from them like smoke. But the color choice doesn’t capture the positive vibes viewers are looking for in an aura. To add to that, the character of Rin Itoshi is even holding his clothes to his nose. X users, quick to attack the unintentionally hilarious poster, had some interesting bits to share about it.

Although some loyal fans rose to defend their favorite anime, there is nothing to be done about the poster that makes it seem like the characters are emulating a skunk with stinky odors wafting off them. The damage is done, and all we can do is wait for the disaster of a poster to slip into the backs of people’s minds.

Although Season 1 ended with the members receiving the taste of overseas footballers, the next season may introduce some high-stakes encounters as the future of the project Blue Lock hangs on a bargain and a single loss in a match may see it get shut down. The new season may also see Ego Jinpachi guide Yoichi Isagi personally but that’s all conjecture.

You can catch up on Season 1 of Blue Lock on Crunchyroll.
