An extensive list of anime titles has recently gained popularity on social media, with some unexpected success stories emerging on streaming services. Among them was Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime series on Netflix that is based on the video game Cyberpunk 2077. Its animation and visual aesthetic offer a novel perspective on the conventional understanding of the genre.

In addition to sending viewers on an exciting journey, the show caused a lot of emotional damage, particularly in the last episode. Aside from that, some fans could still be unclear about the conclusion of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Edgerunners was a rather brief anime, lasting only ten episodes. Even so, it does a good job of telling a well-rounded tale. Because of all of this, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners finale was a well-liked and satisfying one. The conclusion that fans of the Cyberpunk anime received was more than satisfactory, even though a second season may not have materialized just yet.

Fans of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners are still hankering after more because of the way the series’ ending was handled. Even after two years, there is still no word on the revival of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 or even a Season 1 extension. Fortunately, the story may be continued in another fashion by the franchise as a whole and the medium that serves as the anime’s authentic source material.

However, Bartosz Sztybor revealed in an interview with TheNeonArcade that there won’t be any new seasons for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, nor will there be any extension of season 1. Fans will have to stay content with what was a horrific ending. He also mentioned that the show had a happy ending, contrary to the abject horror of the conclusion.

In the Cyberpunk world, I think it was a happy ending to be honest. Like, maybe, not a perfect happy ending but for some characters it was a happy ending and you should be happy that someone made it.

Similar to Akame ga Kill!, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has a large cast of dead characters by the end of the story. However, there are numerous story issues from the Netflix anime series that remain unresolved that could be addressed in a future Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2.

Even if Lucy was able to get away, there’s no guarantee that Arasaka will give up on her. She is still in possession of important information, and the business is unlikely to overlook it. Faraday took the situation to an unmanageable level, but the storyline involving Militech, Arasaka, and the cyberskeleton was never resolved.

Although David’s death is not depicted directly in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the scene with the blood spilled after Smasher’s blast sends a powerful message. Partially fulfilling his mother’s wish, David ascended the Arasaka Tower, in a way that was both poetic and terrifying. David, true to his nature, battled to the last end for the people he loved.

If the series goes on, maybe this is how his narrative really ends and it’s time to focus on someone else. In 2022, CD Projekt Red declared that a traditional Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 will not be produced. However, the brand may collaborate with another anime in the future. This is really discouraging, especially considering how well-liked Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was in several nations.
