The actress met Black Mirror star Jesse Plemons while filming the FX series Fargo. The duo began dating in 2016 and got engaged the next year. They got married in 2022 and share two children.

Dunst’s most recent venture is the movie Civil War, in which she stars alongside her husband. However, she has now revealed that Plemons did not take up the role willingly. In fact, it was upon her insistence that he agreed to appear in the movie.

Civil War is written and directed by Alex Garland, the mastermind behind the award-winning movie Ex Machina. The dystopian war film follows a team of photojournalists who travel across the U.S.  during the rapidly escalating nationwide Second American Civil War.

Besides Dunst and Plemons, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, and other actors appear in the movie. In a recent interview, Dunst, Moura, and Spaeny discussed one horrendous scene in which Plemons’ ultranationalist militiaman asked the photojournalists about their American Citizenship.

Although Plemons remains uncredited for his role, Dunst insisted that the scene played a pivotal role in the movie. She told Movie Web:

“It’s not a role that he wanted to play. I kind of asked him to play it for us because he’s such a brilliant actor. And I knew that that scene was such an important scene, because it ships the film into high gear after that scene.”

Wagner Moura and Priscilla star Cailee Spaeny also offered the details of that particular scene in the movie. They both stressed the fact that it was an important scene.

There is no doubt regarding the fact that Plemons is an incredible actor so if he appears as a character in a project, it is more than likely that he will do so in earnest. Moura, who plays the role of Dunst’s colleague in the movie, revealed how he felt about the aforementioned scene. He told Movie Web:

“So, I’m an American citizen too, but I speak with an accent. I didn’t grow up in this country. I always thought, what would I do, if some day someone asked me something like that? What would be my reaction? And till today, I don’t know.”

The Elysium actor stated that the scene was a personal struggle for him and having Plemons’ character ask him the same question for two days was difficult.

Civil War is now in theatres.
