One of the most promising actors in Hollywood, Jonathan Majors, has once again gained the spotlight amid his tough phase in life. The popular Kang the Conqueror of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has bagged the Perseverance Award at the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards. This happened just six months after his conviction on charges of assault and harassment.

Majors quickly became a fan favorite after his appearance in the MCU, but his journey was short-lived. He first appeared as He Who Remains/Kang in the Disney+ series Loki and later starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. His portrayal of the time-traveling villain was set to be the main villain for the future Avengers projects after Thanos. However, Marvel parted ways after his legal trouble.

The Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards ceremony was held in Beverly Hills, and it became an opportunity for Jonathan Majors to explain his recent struggles. In his emotional 17-minute long speech, the actor was able to express his life experiences and what perseverance means to him. His speech has again reignited discussions about his future in the movie industry.

While receiving the award, Majors became emotional as he mentioned his imperfections and the dark phase of his life that he faced. He also talked about the importance to keep moving forward irrespective of conditions (via Variety),

I’ve sat in that pitch black and what I’ve learned is that when you catch a glimpse of light, you run as hard and as fast as you can towards it. And I will never take that light for granted again.

Major proceeded to thank everyone, including his family, girlfriend, daughter, and other celebrities, who helped him through his tough days. He concluded the speech by thanking his daughter, expressing his love for her in a broken voice, and promising to help others in their tough times.

Fans online took to their social media accounts to express their love and concern for the actor after his speech. Many want him back in the MCU, as Marvel did with Robert Downey Jr. after he had a tough phase of prison time and substance abuse.

Majors’ legal troubles started with his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari in December 2023, when he was found guilty of assault and harassment. Following that, he was discharged from Marvel and lost other work as well. Majors was then sentenced to complete a 52-week domestic violence intervention program.

The Future of Kang in the MCU

The future of Jonathan Majors’ Kang in the MCU still remains uncertain. Although Marvel has replaced actors in the middle of the franchise earlier, as we have seen for Hulk and War Machine, this will be the first time due to legal concerns. What makes it more difficult for the studio is that Kang was supposed to be the main villain for the upcoming Avengers movies, and his replacement might not sit well with the continuity of the character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel was considering minimizing Kang’s role after the underperformance of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Moreover, the studio has changed the name of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers 5 as of now because of the uncertainty surrounding the character.

Marvel has also reconsidered strategies, considering alternative options other than Kang as the main villain. There are speculations that Doctor Doom can become the next main MCU antagonist. Considering that The Fantastic Four is to debut in the MCU in 2025, it is quite reasonable to assume that Dr. Doom will be introduced as the main villain of Avengers next. However, Marvel has been silent about the future of Doctor Doom or Kang’s reappearance and recasting.

So far, there have been no official confirmations from any side. However, although Majors’ actions have and will have a lasting impact on his career, he reportedly got back on track with the supernatural thriller movie Merciless by Martin Villeneuve.
