Eiichiro Oda is considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest mangaka of all time with his work in the highest-selling manga of all time, One Piece. One thing that sets Oda apart from the rest is his brilliancy in foreshadowing and even connecting the past despite his long-running series.

The anime fans of the series just recently had the opportunity to witness it firsthand with episode 1108 of One Piece. The episode made the Pirate Hunter, Zoro, get a major flashback reliving the moment that played a big role in his character development.

Zoro’s fight against Mr.1 all the way back in Alabasta Arc was arguably one of his hardest fights early on in the series, aside from his fight against Mihawk. The fight against Mr.1 was a crucial point for his character development as it helped him push past his limits setting him on a path to becoming a far greater swordsman.

In episode 1108, the pirate hunter gets a flashback of Mr.1 as S-Hawk, the seraphim clone of Mihawk, uses the devil fruit power of the Supa Supa no Mi. This devil fruit lets the user turn any parts of their body into blades or saws. This devil fruit, paired with a master swordsman, is a recipe for controlled destruction.

The fact that S-Hawk was able to stand toe-to-toe with Blackbeard, the Supa Supa no Mi is without a doubt even deadlier in the hands of S-Hawk than it was with Mr.1. The Pirate Hunter has become at least a thousand times stronger since his fight against Daz Bonez in Alubarna’s streets, but a fight against Mihawk’s clone could always go sideways.

Swordsmen play a major role in the One Piece universe, as some of the strongest characters are those who wield swords. So here is a list of three of the current strongest swordsmen in the series.

Dracule Mihawk: Known as “Hawk Eyes,” Mihawk holds the coveted title of “Strongest Swordsman in the World.” He’s a master swordsman who dueled Shanks when they were both young, which is talked about to this day. Mihawk wields Yoru, one of the Supreme Grade Meito (legendary swords), and his mastery of both swordsmanship and Haki makes him a force to be reckoned with.

Shanks: This red-haired powerhouse might be a Yonko now, but let’s not forget his roots as a fearsome swordsman. Despite losing an arm, Shanks is still one of the strongest characters in One Piece. His mastery of Haki, particularly Conqueror’s Haki, combined with his incredible swordsmanship makes him a true top contender. We haven’t seen Shanks, like Mihawk, go all-out in a sword fight yet, but his reputation and past battles speak volumes about his strength.

Fujitora: This blind swordsman might seem like an underdog, but don’t underestimate him.  The Marine Admiral, Fujitora possesses incredible skill and a unique fighting style that utilizes his blindness to his advantage. His mastery of Gravity manipulation through his Devil Fruit, the Zushi Zushi no Mi adds another layer of complexity to his swordsmanship, making him an unpredictable and strongest swordsman in One Piece.
