There was a time when childhoods were incomplete without the magic of Hogwarts from the enchanting world of Harry Potter. Starring Daniel Radcliffe as the lead character, the Harry Potter books and movies take fans on a magical journey from the muggle world to Hogwarts.

Spanning various books and a very successful movie franchise, J.K. Rowling’s fictional world never failed to delight fans across all genres. It had suspense, thrill, magical action, and spell-binding plot points that left audiences wanting more. At the same time, Radcliffe understands that Rowling played a huge role in kickstarting his career and making him one of the most popular child actors of all time. However, that is not to say that Radcliffe did not work as hard to make his place in the industry and dedicate most part of his life to that one role fans loved so much. In a recent interview with The Atlantic, the actor claimed,

“Obviously Harry Potter would not have happened without her, so nothing in my life would have probably happened the way it is without that person. But that doesn’t mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life. I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people, and have no further comment than that.”

Radcliffe went on to elaborate on how sad this whole debacle makes him because he feels like he does not know Rowling anymore. All the times they met and discussed the story, she seemed like such an empathetic and creative person. Her harsh comments negating trans people’s rights and lives have left people brokenhearted.

Rowling has often clearly stated her disapproval of trans people and their legislative rights. She has expressed in the past and continues to do so on social media that people cannot get surgeries to change their gender. Last year, the author even said that she stands by her views no matter what and would be willing to face jail time.

Just a few weeks ago, the author penned a massive open explanation on X (formerly Twitter) to answer fans’ queries and clarify what her views are on the situation. She explained how she sympathizes with gender dysphoria but does not condone cross-s*x surgeries that change people’s s*x completely.
