The Designer’s Vision and Process for Lizzo’s Met Gala 2024 Outfit
Lizzo’s designer, Victor Weinsanto, revealed the inspiration and process that went into creating the one-of-a-kind outfit. Originally designed for his Spring/Summer 2024 Perfect Day collection, Weinsanto was thrilled when Lizzo’s stylists approached him about the piece for the Met Gala.
Celebrity makeup artist Alexx Mayo, who’s been working with Lizzo for many years, said to The Hollywood Reporter,
“When you see the dress, there’s this idea as though flowers are being blown by the breeze, and it definitely gives this goddess vibe.”
“Harmony within nature was the biggest inspiration for this look. I wanted the idea of florals and gardens, but not to be so literal. The gown features these sprays of dried flowers, so I wanted to play with the beauty of a rose through its lifecycle, using different tones and just mixing from my palettes to reflect the rosebud to a rose in full bloom to the point when it withers and dies, but it’s still beautiful.”
Weinsanto’s initial concept was to create a sculpted corset that would give the essence of a flower from head to toe. However, many adjustments were made to customize the design for Lizzo. The fabric was also dyed to match her skin tone, and the bottom of the dress was adjusted to ensure she could walk easily.
The designer felt the importance of harmony within nature as the driving force behind the look. Almost 600 to 700 hours were dedicated to bringing this vision to life. Weinsanto expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with Lizzo and the singer made sure to live up to her team’s vision.
