We often hear announcements of movies and since that moment begins the various phases of a film till its completion. However, some films just don’t get past the idea stage to some influential in the industry. A project of this sort is considered a rumour.
It takes more time to bring a science fiction film into life than a normal one, mainly because of its visual effects. Then, comes the script and story must be approved by the studio, producer and at times, the actors. An idea of a movie starts as a spark in someone’s mind. So today, we’ll tell about 4 Science Fiction Projects currently in development (and 3 rumoured.)
In Development: Inversion
It’s a sci-fi thriller which revolves around a con man who partners with a Chinese physicist to try to save Earth when it loses gravity. The planet has only one powerful particle accelerator which can stop the full change in gravity, and the two main characters much reach it in time to activate it.
Samuel L. Jackson with Yifei Liu and Travis Fimmel star in the movie and the movie was shot in Shanghai, China, Illinois and Chicago. It began filming in September 2017. The release date is yet to be revealed.
Rumour: Cloverfield 5
This movie has always been kept low key by The Bad Robot Productions as it was speculated that Overlord is Cloverfield 4. The Bad Robot recently released information about an upcoming movie called Kolma. This movie could very well be Cloverfield 5 and is going to be a remake of the TV movie from Israel, announced in 2016 and stars Daisy Ridley.
Keeping in mind the sudden release of Cloverfield Paradox on Netflix, we can suspect that the movie might release without anyone knowing. Even though the movie has been denied, a Reddit user has cracked the film and has stated the plot as very compelling.
In development: Alien: Covenant Sequel.
Before the release of Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott revealed that a sequel is already under work and the production will begin in 2018.
It was temporarily titled as Awakening but no official statement about the title have been released yet. It’s revealed that Scott wants to move away from Alien to an AI on another planet. At the time, Ridley is busy with projects like The Cartel and All the money in the world. No release date has been given yet.
Rumored: 1984
The George Orwell novel has been made into a movie more than once. The rumours hit us once more in 2012 after Shepard Fairey who is best known for Barack Obama’s HOPE poster pitched in an idea to Imagine Entertainment. In 2015, Equals was considered as a romantic remake of 1984 but it was later disregarded by the makers.
Since then, the rumours somewhat have subsided but it’s still known if Imagine got the rights of the movie.
In Development: Ad Astra
This is going to be the first movie to come from Disney after it purchased 20th Century Fox. The movie stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones Ruth Negga and Donald Sutherland and it revolves around an army engineer who goes on a personal mission across the galaxy in the quest of his father who was once sent off to Neptune to find Alien life.
It was confirmed by Director James Gray in 2017 that Brad Pitt would star. The movie will release on January 11, 2019.
Rumoured: Yoda Standalone film
There are rumours of various Star Wars standalone films circulating like Jabba, The hut. It makes sense for Disney to keep making the Star Wars movies, which has a rich universe and a fan base. Frank base was synonymous about Yoda during an interview because of The Empire Strikes back. He first said, “such a thing is going to happen” but later joked about it saying, “Yeah, he’s going to be a chorus girl. He will become and he won’t kick that high.” Well, he tried handling it with humour but the first statement revealed it all.
In Development: Avatar 2
Avatar released in 2009 and was widely appreciated by fans. James Cameron proved how he could use brilliant visual effects to build a story. The sequel was announced in 2010 with a release planned in 2014 but Cameron decided to motion captures underwater, something that hasn’t been done before and this required some technology.
Both Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 are being filmed currently and the additional sequels will be filmed after the release of these two. The cast is almost the same as Avatar and is scheduled to release on December 18, 2020 and the rest of the sequels between 2021 and 2025.
