Cinderella Gets A Girlboss Update

Camila Cabello made her debut with recently released Amazon Prime’s Cinderella. She played the titular character alongside Pierce Brosnan, Idina Menzel, and James Corden. The film retells the famous fairytale but with some new updates and twists in the story. While the Fairy Godmother is played by Billy Porter, it was Menzel who played the wicked stepmother. Apart from everything else, the film is filled with Queens’ Somebody To Love to Ed Sheeran’s Perfect with two original songs sung by Menzel and Cabello. Directed and written by Kay Cannon, Cinderella is produced by James Corden who also starred as a mouse in the film.

The Use Of Modern Slang Was Hilarious

While comedies never really appeal to anyone, some moments in the film forces the audience to think about what they’re actually laughing at. The innuendos like the one when Cinderella’s suitor echoes “parsnips, turnips, rutabagas, the fleshiest fruit on the earth” or when the princess mocks the prince by saying “He’s not working with much upstairs and I’d be surprised if it was different elsewhere” were somewhat creepy within the content. The movie even had some modern references, such as Billy Porter saying “Yes future queen, Yas!”. Such dialogues felt like the writer was trying to appeal to a Gen Z audience.

The Play-Fighting Scene Was Too Much OTT

The play-fight between the friends and siblings was too exaggerated to feel genuine. One such example could be noted when a princess tries to persuade Prince Robert by echoing how prominently they could rule the world. At that point of the scene, the Prince, along with his friends, was being characterized as playboys who ended up messing up with the princess’ pitch.

Hench’s Deep Speech On Love

Since Hench’s character has suffered a lot, his moments of clarity are hard to depict on screen. Hence, later in the film, has this really deep thought above falling in love that surprises even the audience. Hench asks everyone: “What is life if you’re not with the person you love, right? Otherwise, we might as well just close our eyes and take the old mud nap because nothing else matters.”

Prince Robert’s Weird Musical Taste

As there are a lot of music covers in the film, some phrases don’t even gel up with the content on screen. For instance, in the second paragraph of Queen’s Somebody To Love, Prince Robert sings “I work hard every day of my life, I work ’til I ache in my bones”, which almost feels like he is taunting his servants. In fact, even Am I Wrong by the Norwegian duo feels weird. But over everything, Seven Nation Army is the right icing one could ever experience on screen.
