After Alexandra Daddario consolidated her position in Hollywood with projects like Percy Jackson, The White Lotus, and Baywatch, her sister Catherine Daddario entered the industry.
The siblings have shared a close bond for the longest time and Alexandra supports Catherine every step of the way. While Catherine is not as famous as Alexandra yet, she is gradually finding her niche in the world of acting. Here are a few things you may not have known about Catherine Daddario.
Catherine Daddario is the youngest sibling
Both her elder siblings Alexandra Daddario and Matthew Daddario are actors, making her entry into Hollywood a natural progression. At the same time, Catherine must feel a bit pressured into following the footsteps of her successful siblings and making a name for herself just as they had. Alexandra has had a pretty great career trajectory so far as she managed to take on versatile roles.
Catherine, on the other hand, has followed suit with movies like Dying for a Crown, Lake Artifact, and The Tomorrow Job. From action and suspense to coming-of-age stories, Catherine is trying to dip her feet into every genre. Her elder brother Matthew Daddario has been seen in Shadowhunters, Trust, and Cabin Fever with more roles lined up.
Catherine Daddario had Speech Apraxia as a child
It wasn’t easy for Catherine to find out what she truly enjoyed doing and what she wanted to become when she grew older. Looking at her successful parents and siblings, Catherine had to prove her worth and find something that excited her. When she settled on acting, her speech apraxia did not help.
In an interview with The Extravagant, she shared,
I had speech apraxia when I was a kid, which basically meant that I couldn’t speak well when I was a kid. It was just pure gibberish. So a lot of what I was doing was motions and listening to their tone to figure out what they were saying. So a lot of it was really theatrical, so I could tell people what I wanted and what I was trying to say, because no one could understand me. So that’s what led me to having a lot of different problems in school.
So I joined this theatre group because I was like I have to learn how to speak, and do it very well. So I joined this repertory company, and after doing show after show after show, I was like this is where I’m supposed to be.
In a way, overcoming this obstacle helped Catherine decide this is what she wanted in life. She experienced openness and freedom while participating in those classes which eventually helped her defeat the challenge.
Catherine Daddario played Bea’s Mom in IF
John Krasinski’s Imaginary Friends, or IF, felt like a surreal dream as it helped adults get in touch with their childhood selves and relive a portion of their past. The unique concept was widely appreciated and an array of Hollywood A-listers lent their voices to the quirky characters. Catherine played the role of Bea’s mother in the movie while Krasinski played the father.
She was seen in the beginning montage of the movie where the audience learns Bea’s mother is sick and will not make it till the end. Her sickness prompts both Bea and her father to spend time at the hospital and the parents try their best to keep Bea happy and away from the gloom of the hospital. Catherine’s role, despite having minimal dialogue, caught the attention of the masses and impressed them with her poignant portrayal.
Catherine Daddario wants to play “Spunky” Characters
Since she is just starting out in Hollywood, it’ll be some time before Catherine gets her pick of the roles in movies and shows. However, that does not stop her from having a keen preference or an inclination towards a certain archetype. In the interview with The Extravagant, Catherine admitted,
I really like fully fleshed out female characters. I think a lot of the time, unless you’re the lead, you’re not really fleshed out. So, getting even a supporting character who has a backstory is really great. But, I’m a little spunky, so I really like getting a character like that. I can relate to that, so I like that. That would probably be my favorite character right now – someone who can turn aggression into laughs.
Considering it resonates with her personality and helps her reconnect with her inner self, the actress would like to play more well-fleshed-out characters in the future. She is gradually spreading her wings in the industry and much like Alexandra, she will certainly make it big in no time.
Catherine Daddario found inspiration in Mulan
While the Disney classic is a fan favorite for most people across the world, Catherine fell in love with Mulan because of the feisty spirit of the lead character. As she claimed in the interview that she resonates with spunky characters, Catherine claimed Mulan was a source of inspiration for her.
Furthermore, while talking about her favorite movies, she also said,
I really liked animation, so like Spirited Away, Mulan I could watch a million times because she’s female inspiration. I was actually obsessed with older movies as a kid, so like Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes or How to Marry a Millionaire – she has such charm and surprise wit. And Carey Grant and Katherine Hepburn, for example – their physical nature, I could only dream about. Their level of control in every one of their parts is impressive.
She also mentions how she loves Legally Blonde and that she has watched the movie a hundred times. Seems like female power and being a lady boss is something Catherine desires with all her heart.
