6 Agents of SHIELD Heroes MCU Still Neglects Like a Stepchild, Refuses to be Canon
For years, fans have wondered why Agents of SHIELD heroes are not canon in the MCU. Especially now that Marvel has finally confirmed the Defenders saga with hit Netflix series like Daredevil and The Punisher now being the canon of the MCU. While fans are obviously excited for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher to take center stage, there are some notable superheroes from Agents of SHIELD that deserve the same treatment, which is long overdue.
Here are 6 Agents of SHIELD heroes that have the potential to become the next big thing in the MCU.
6) Ghost Rider
Ghost Rider is one of the most popular characters from Marvel so its appearance in the MCU canon is sort of imminent. Throughout the years, there have been strong rumors of a Ghost Rider spin-off post his disappearance after the fourth season of Agents of SHIELD.
The fourth season of Agents of SHIELD introduced Robbie Reyes’s Ghost Rider, who is a vengeful entity that deals with criminals somewhat in a Deadpool or the Punisher manner. He has his own brand of punishing people he thinks are a problem for society’s wellbeing. It makes him more of an anti-hero than a hero, which would be refreshing to see on-screen after the post-Avengers superhero fatigue.
5) Deathlok
Michael Peterson is the single father of Ace Peterson and a Centipede Project test subject, an experiment promising to cure his injuries and enhance his power through the Centipede Serum. However, when he compromised the security of the project, they decided to eliminate him, only to be stopped by SHIELD agents led by Phil Coulson. The Hooded Hero then moved over to the other side and became a powerful ally of the SHIELD.
Although, so far, no Agents of SHIELD have gone over to the MCU, fans are deadset on Marvel bringing Deathlok back as part of Phase 5 projects like Ironheart or Armor Wars. All these projects are heavily technology-oriented and this half-human, half-machine, killing supernova would fit right in. He kind of reminds one of Bucky Barnes, who was manipulated as a killing machine until he broke free and moved over to the good side. This villain-to-hero arc is also what would make him an interesting character on screen.
4) Bobbi Morse’s Mockingbird
Hawkeye’s final season was a bucket full of surprises, and one of the big ones was Clint Barton’s wife, Laura, who has worked as part of SHIELD as Agent 19, aka. Mockingbird. In Agents of SHIELD, Agent 19 was seen to be Bobby Morse, a faithful SHIELD member who was there for the organization despite the heavy casualties that it took from HYDRA. She served under Robert Gonzales and when Phil Coulson’s SHIELD emerged, she was sent to infiltrate it from the inside. Loyal to Gonzales, she recommended an attack on Coulson’s base but the two fractions put their differences aside when HYDRA remerged.

She was Agents of SHIELD’s Black Widow and was one of the most arresting characters on the show. However, she took off in season 3 and there is a likely chance that she will not appear again. She is a skilled fighter and her on-screen charm would put many to shame. However, with the Hawkeye tease, one can hope Marvel has some plans to reintroduce Agent 19 but this time Laura will take the place of Bobbi Morse.
3) Elena Rodriguez’s Yo-Yo
Elena Rodriguez is an interesting superhero who can move at incredible speed but always has to return to the point from where she started. Hence, the name Yo-Yo is attributed to her. She is one of the most vital members of Agent Coulson’s team.
Elena Rodriguez’s Yo-Yo debuted in Agents of SHIELD season 3, and she went knee-deep into the mythos of the Inhumans as well as developed Marvel Studio’s Secret Warriors team. Fans really want this popular character to be in front of Marvel’s roaster. However, Cordova-Buckley spoke to Comicbookmovie.com and suggested she would not return as the character since 5 years of playing superhero was “enough for [her].”
The MCU may not have any plans to explore Inhumans at the moment, especially since it is planning to focus on mutants. However, she will make a terrific addition to Marvel’s upcoming projects if they do not decide to ignore her purposefully.
2) Director Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie
Director Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie is a mechanical engineer and was a former member of SHIELD before taking on the role of director after Daisy Johnson and Phil Coulson. Despite the heavy casualties from HYDRA, he remained loyal to the cause and served under Robert Gonzales. When Phil Coulson’s division emerged, he went with Bobbi Morse and Isabelle Hartley to infiltrate it. However, they dissolved their differences as HYDRA remerged and Mackenzie rose to the director’s status after years of work.
SHIELD has not been seen in the MCU since the tease in Age of Ultron and has been replaced with SWORD and SABER. Bringing him back would help rebuild the agents of SHIELD again and they could become a force to be reckoned with.
1) Daisy Johnson’s Quake
Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson, a.k.a. Quake, is one of Marvel’s greatest heroes. She is also one of the most powerful agents in SHIELD, having gained her power through Terrigenesis. She can create strong vibratory waves. With time, her vibrations became strong enough to potentially destroy the world.
The audience was particularly bummed when Quake did not appear in Secret Invasion, despite strong rumors. However, the audience hopes all is not lost and the character returns as an MCU canon one day.
Until these shows do not get a Cinderella makeover and get an epic comeback, one can watch Agents of SHIELD on Disney+.
