The onscreen witch Kathryn Hahn has had an eventful career, to say the least. After small best-friend roles in various projects, she finally got her big break with roles in Bad Moms and Tiny Beautiful Things.

Now, she is leading an entire Marvel series that revolves around the witch Agatha Harkness, a tough contender to the Scarlet Witch. New adventures and new mishaps await Hahn’s acting chops as she takes viewers on a spellbinding journey. While Agatha might like some mystery around her life, here’s a look at Hahn’s trajectory in Hollywood and things few people know about the actress.

Born to a middle-class family, Kathryn Hahn does not shy away from talking about her roots. It’s either because she has nothing to hide, or because her family is known to use humor as a defense mechanism. Hahn is the eldest daughter with all the normative responsibilities of taking care of the household, and sometimes even mothering her two younger brothers.

In kindergarten itself, Hahn got obsessed with acting, which sprang from many children’s love to play pretend. Since then, she has been on a rollercoaster journey by accepting any role that came her way and challenging herself out of her comfort zone.

She is married to Ethan Sandler

On the personal front, the Agatha All Along actress is married to Ethan Sandler whom she met when they both were freshmen in college. Sandler was also into acting which further helped them connect on a deeper level. Following their graduation, the couple moved to the big scary city of New York to conquer the theatre scene.

Eventually, at an event for Yale’s School of Drama, Hahn was recognized by an agent who spotted her talent from miles away. The agent, Lindsay Porter, manages the celebrity to this day, further shining a light on Hahn’s ability to cultivate meaningful, long-term relationships. Hahn and Sandler tied the knot in 2002. They currently live in Los Angeles with their two kids – Leonard and Mae.

Role Models and Inspirations

Being an actor, Hahn expressed she has always been gravitating towards greatness. Careers of actors like Gena Rowlands, Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton, Barbara Hershey, and Teri Garr have deeply inspired the actress to be willing to take risks and have a career she can be proud of. In a conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, she said,

There were a lot of those ’70s and ’80s heroines that I loved, and they looked like real people. There was something so sexy and real about them – they were who I gravitated towards. It was before this time now, where everyone looks so perfect. But then I admired so many dudes too, like Peter Falk and freaking Robert De Niro – I loved their careers. I thought, to be able to do those parts and have those trajectories was so interesting and inspiring.

Hahn has certainly lived up to her role models’ charted map despite carving a niche for herself. With more experimental projects like Agatha All Along, she wishes to choose roles that accentuate her eccentric personality more.

Preferring things old-school, Hahn remains aloof from social media and tech in general. She likes reading things on paper and surprisingly, still uses a filofax. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed that she bought a laptop only recently to write and know the current affairs.

While many actors of today won’t survive a single day without their precious mobile phones and social media, Hahn is setting an example of how things are simpler and easier with less stress.

She loves ensemble casts

Hailing from a theatre background, Hahn has always been a big fan of ensemble casts. It’s not fun unless there are many characters and actors to work with. Looking at her filmography so far, we find that most of her projects have involved a group of great actors coming together to create magic on screen. Hahn expressed,

I’m an ensemble player — I come from the theater — so I approach it like any other gig. I can’t find my character unless I’m looking in my co-stars’ eyeballs. One is only as good as the people that they work with so I’m just lucky to be surrounded by incredible actors and an amazing crew.

WandaVision was a bit different for Hahn since that was a close-knit group of actors and crew who worked on the project. Nevertheless, the unparalleled success of the show ensured fans got an insight into Agatha’s backstory with the ongoing spinoff.

Hahn was pregnant while shooting How Do You Know

Actresses in their pregnancy choose to stay away from the camera due to the constant discomfort and the unnecessary comments by people all around that often lead to trolling. No matter what a woman does, people always find a way to critique the same. However, none of that mattered for Kathryn Hahn who aced her role in How Do You Know even as a secondary character.

What’s more, she was pregnant while shooting the film and showing her baby bump proudly on camera. Filming the climax scene for How Do You Know was tough as Hahn told CinemaBlend. She revealed,

And you know I was pregnant at the time, really. In the scene, my own daughter, who was in my belly at the time, was very jealous of the baby I was holding. As that scene was going on, she kept kicking me more and more, like “Get that kid off of my mommy.” That was another track that was going on underneath it, my own baby. It was really a profound experience.

Everyone thought Hahn’s pregnant belly was prosthetic but the actress revealed that it was not. The actress was pregnant in reality and chose to show her true self on screen.

Movies including Wanderlust, How Do You Know, Our Idiot Brother, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie feature both Hahn and Rudd together.

The duo have developed a great rapport and have nothing but great things to say about each other. They have become pals over the years and often spend time with each other’s families too.
