The Annecy International Animation Film Festival has become a hot spot for major studios to reveal their upcoming animated projects. This year, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is pulling out all the stops, with a lineup boasting both epic premieres and exciting returns of fan favorites.
The big animation festival coming up in Annecy is getting a lot of attention for premieres like Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim and the return of Creature Commandos. But there’s something else cool happening there too! The event will also unveil the details about the revival of the much-loved Cartoon Network show, The Amazing World of Gumball.
Annecy Film Festival to Premiere Upcoming and Return of Fan-Favorite Animated Projects
At Annecy, one of the biggest attractions is the first-ever animated Lord of the Rings by WBD. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim hits theaters this December, and lucky attendees will get a sneak peek of the film. The exclusive presentation will feature big names like Oscar winner Philippa Boyens, director Kenji Kamiyama, producer Joseph Chou, and the talented Andy Serkis.
And for some laughs, there’s the world premiere of The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. Directed by Pete Browngardt, the genius behind Looney Tunes Cartoons, this movie stars Porky Pig and Daffy Duck in a hilarious battle against aliens.
Annecy will also give superhero animation fans a look into Creature Commandos, the first series from the revamped DC Universe by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Supervising producer Rick Morales and director Balak Yves will talk about how they made the show, bringing a new beginning for DC’s animated shows.
The Return of The Amazing World of Gumball at The Annecy Film Festival
Fans of Cartoon Network’s quirky humor adored The Amazing World of Gumball. The series ran for five seasons, following the misadventures of the blue cat Gumball Watterson and his goldfish best friend Darwin. Since its debut in 2011, the show has been praised for its unique animation, clever jokes, and nods to pop culture.
After being off the air for a while, The Amazing World of Gumball is making a comeback, and the Annecy Film Festival will give fans a sneak peek at what’s in store for the reboot. Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, a part of Warner Bros., is leading the charge in bringing it back.
This branch of the famous animation studio has a track record of making hit kids’ cartoons like The Happos Family and Wacky Races. Their role in rebooting Gumball shows they’re dedicated to giving old fans a nostalgic treat while introducing the quirky world of Elmore to a whole new audience.
The 48th Annecy International Animation Film Festival is scheduled to be held in Annecy, France, from June 9th to June 15th, 2024.
