An Otsutsuki Member Might be the Real Reason Why Boruto Isn’t Kurama’s Jinchuriki Instead of Himawari
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has offered some shocking twists that make the series as unpredictable as ever. While Naruto and Hinata have been kept in stasis by Kawaki for three years, Boruto has been training to upgrade his abilities with Kashin Toji. Boruto’s sister, Himawari is training as well, assuming Kawaki is her brother and Boruto is the enemy.
In a turn of events, as Jūra hunts Himawari down in Konoha, chapter #9 of the franchise resurrects its most powerful Tailed Beast. As the Konoha ninjas stopped to fight against Jūra, he discovered that the person whom he sensed with the chakra of the Tailed Beast was Himawari Uzumaki and not Naruto.
Why Isn’t Boruto Kurama’s Jinchuriki?
Being the titular character of the series, Boruto might be the first person who comes to mind as the person ideal enough to carry Naruto’s legacy. However, it seems another Uzumaki member has inherited the chakra of the Tailed Beast. In the latest chapter, Jūra mistook her for Naruto, sensing the potent energy from her beast chakra.
However, fans might question why Boruto isn’t Kurama’s jinchuriki and the answer lies in the fact that Boruto already serves as a vessel to an Otsutsuki member. In Chapter 44 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Boruto and Team 7 members warped to a different dimension and rescued Naruto.
During the mission, they managed to defeat a powerful member in the process. However, the victory came at a huge cost and Boruto’s friends witnessed the young shinobi undergo a horrific transformation and reveal unbelievable powers beyond his scope. The later chapters of the manga revealed that Boruto was given his karma seal.
Momoshiki Could Be Boruto’s New “Kurama”
Although it initially seemed like Momoshiki helped Naruto and Sasuke get rid of the alien, the Otsutsuki member managed to embed himself onto Boruto through the Karma mark. Luck was in Boruto’s favor as Kawaki stopped Boruto from being rewritten by Momoshiki, leaving Boruto as an Otsutsuki shell after a shocking resurrection.

Karmas are fascinating as they act as a backup of an Otsutsuki clan member’s DNA and biological data. If an Otsutsuki member falls during a battle, their soul can jump into a host’s body, sometimes taking over the host’s body for their own needs. In case the Karma fully overwrites the host’s genetic information, the Otsutsuki can use the host body to reincarnate themselves.
Boruto’s Karma opens up many interesting questions about the future of Boruto’s story and the ultimate fate of the eponymous character. While his Karma is undoubtedly making him stronger, will he be able to fend it off if something unnatural happens? Will Momoshiki be able to resurrect through Boruto? Fans await with bated breath for all these mysteries to be unraveled in the later chapters of Boruto.
