Andrew Scott’s Mother Never Knew About His Sexuality Despite Catching Him Red-Handed With a Compromising Evidence
Andrew Scott made his acting debut back in 1995 with a role in the Irish feature film Korea. However, he didn’t see a rise to fame until recently. The Irish actor first rose to fame thanks to his role as James Moriarty, the iconic villain in the crime drama series Sherlock. Later, he became vastly popular for his role in the second season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s comedy-drama series Fleabag.
Moreover, Andrew Scott is also one of the most famous openly gay actors, a term which he doesn’t like all that much. Interestingly, Scott’s mother missed a major hint in realizing his sexuality at a younger age.
Andrew Scott recalls how his mother missed a major hint about his sexuality
Andrew Scott recently played ‘Know your Internet Boyfriends’ with his co-actor of All of Us Strangers, Paul Mescal. In a clip of the same uploaded on Instagram, Scott recalled how his mother once saw him reading a book about one of the gay icons and didn’t realize it. He said:
“This is so shocking that my mother didn’t know that I was homosexual. I read the Barbra Streisand, absolutely massive! My mother was like in my room, ‘What are you reading?’, I went, ‘Sorry?’ She went, ‘It’s so wonderful that you’re so interested in theatre’, and I was like yes that’s what it is.”
Despite Andrew Scott not revealing his exact age when this happened, it’s safe to say that it’s a rather hilarious incident for Scott to look back at.
Andrew Scott opens up on challenges faced while playing the role of Jim Moriarty
As mentioned earlier, one of the roles that Andrew Scott is most known for is that for his role in Sherlock. He played the role of James Moriarty.
While Scott’s depiction of the character was brilliant, he faced many challenges while playing the role. While speaking about the same during an interview with British GQ, he said:
“The challenge for me in that character was to try and hold onto his power. I remember a good few times, asking Mark and Steven, who are the brilliant writers on Sherlock, for him not to say too much, or to say less, which they were always in total agreement about, just that if you had an amazing bullseye line to sort of cut around all the other lines.”
Regardless of the challenges Andrew Scott faced, he managed to perform the role exceptionally and certainly left his mark on Sherlock.
