Rise of the Planet of the Apes will always be special in the hearts of fans due to Andy Serkis’s portrayal of Caesar, an empathetic primate, in the movie. The Planet of the Apes franchise cannot be thought of without the brilliant performance of Andy Serkis as Caesar, who portrays the franchise’s origin lore and mythology in the most fantastic manner.

After the trilogy came to an end, director Wes Ball started planning for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Given the success of the last trilogy of this franchise, many were hoping that the story had not ended yet. Their suspicions came true with the news of the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. However, there is an update on Andy Serkis’s Caesar for the upcoming movie that the fans might not be ready to accept yet.

Andy Serkis might not appear in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

In the Planets of the Apes Trilogy, the audience witnessed the entire lifespan of Andy Serkis’s Caesar. Many would think that it was time for Caesar’s son, Cornelius, to take up the mantle. However, the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is jumping many centuries ahead—300 years to be precise—in the storyline (via. Empire). Because of that, there is little chance of Andy Serkis reprising his role as Caesar in the upcoming movie. It will be a completely new era with a totally new storyline.

The story is set around 300 years after Caesar delivered the promised land. However, with time, all that he stood for was slowly getting lost. Still, it is Caesar’s legacy and the motto “apes together strong” that will be the driving force behind Noa, the new Ape hero of the Kingdom.

Andy Serkis speaks up against cancel culture making the people too touchy

In an interview with The Independent, Andy Serkis opens up about how people and celebrities can be “cancelled for anything now.” Serkis was of the controversial opinion that actors should be able to play whatever part they want and even asked people to try and not “tap” their foot when a Michael Jackson song comes along, despite the pedophilia accusations against the late singer. He went on to say further:

“You can be cancelled for anything now, literally anything, and what I really despise is trial by media. That’s ruined more people’s lives and should not be allowed. There should be a proper course of law, where charges are made, people go through the legal process, and it should not be allowed to proliferate. Because people’s lives can be devastated. Sometimes, because of what they’ve done, it requires that, but the fact of the matter is, once it’s happened, that’s it. There’s no going back.”

He then brings on the age-old debate of separating art from the artist when it comes to artists with questionable personal life choices. This is not the first time Andy Serkis has been vocal about this sort of thing. In 2018, he also vehemently supported Scarlett Johansson when she was cast to play a transgender person in the movie Rug the Tug and faced backlash over it.
