Justice League by James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder have so far seen the world’s greatest heroes tackle all sorts of threats. With Hawkgirl, Green Lantern John Stewart and Martian Manhunter stuck in space while Batman in a full body cast, things get any worse for the team.

Aquaman has been captured by an Ocean Lords, an ancient race of aquatic beings. Earth was tried to be taken from The Lords, but they were defeated and banished to another dimension by Poseidon years ago.

Arthur seems helpless as the world is submerged in water turns people into monsters upon physical contact. This is even subjected to Atlantis, a city that consists of primary water although Ocean Master and Mera are immune to the monstrous transformation.

When Arthur doesn’t agree to Ocean Lords’ demands, they turn to someone else to wield the power: Black Manta.

Manta often tries to take out Aquaman, but often falls short because he’s just a human with a fishbowl on his head. He does try to take relics from Ancient underwater cities, something we saw when his son became the new Aqualad.

He has since joined the Legion of Doom and teaming with Lords is a part of the Legion’s agenda. While Ocean Master succumbs to the monstrous transformation, Justice League gets beaten by Ocean Lords and Aquaman gets the Heart of the Ocean stolen from him.

Unfortunately, we don’t get to see Manta’s new powers but he does roast Aquaman about using the power to talk to fishes. What Manta does next with his newly gained powers is yet to be seen, but we are sure that it isn’t anything good.
