Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone go a long time back. So their friendship has also certainly endured long. Hopefully this long friendship can bear some subtle jabs because Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t holding back!

The Famous Stallone-Schwarzenegger Rivalry

Before Stallone and Schwarzenegger became friends, they were intense rivals in the 80s and 90s. This rivalry fueled some of the greatest actions movies of their era since they tried to one-up each other always. This included competitions where they determined whose movie had better kills, bigger guns and who had more muscle. Fans of the actors will remember that movies like Commando and Rambo: First Blood Part 2 both came out in 1985. Even though the newest Rambo movie certainly wasn’t anything to write home about. On the other hand, Terminator: Dark Fate has been garnering great reviews even before its premiere and is expected to make misogynists shut up.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently out promoting Terminator: Dark Fate and he recently stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about a host of subjects. He began by addressing the California wildfires which led to the cancelation of the Terminator: Dark Fate premiere in Hollywood. When Kimmel asked if he was okay then Schwarzenegger replied affirmatively. The conversation then turned to the Schwarzenegger-Stallone rivalry. Kimmel asked him how he was able to convince Stallone to make the 1992 action-comedy flop Stop!Or My Mom Will Shoot. He went on to say:

“I read the script, and it was a piece of s—. Let’s be honest. I say to myself, I’m not going to do this movie…Then they went to Sly, and Sly called me, have they ever talked to you about doing this movie? And I said, yes, I was thinking about doing it. This is a really brilliant idea, this movie. When he heard that, because he was in competition, he said, ‘Whatever it takes, I’ll do the movie.’ And of course the movie went major into the toilet.”

This little tongue-in-cheek diss simply tells one of the intense rivalry which these two had. But one flop movie didn’t stop Stallone and he went on to do a lot more memorable action movies in the 90s. Just like Schwarzenegger’s Terminator franchise which reached its peak when he was in it. Both these actors were certified action superstars back then and they are even now.
