The filmmaker of the science fiction movie District 9,  Neill Blomkamp gives an unexpected and undesired update for the movie’s sequel. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Blomkamp was asked if Sony would still be tied to District 10 if it were to happen. The filmmaker stated that Sony would be engaged, but added that he is unsure of the movie’s future, speculating only that it would probably be produced at some time.

“Yeah, they would be tied to it”.

“I don’t know if it’s getting made or not. I don’t know if I even want to make that right now, but at some point down the line, it’ll probably get made.

When District 9 was initially released in 2009, it received a generally favorable response and was nominated for numerous accolades. Over the years, there have been several hints that a sequel may be released. Blomkamp and actor Sharlto Copley who played a significant role in the sci-fi, both appear to have penned scripts for a prospective District 10. As it has been hinted that the sequel will eventually come it will be a thrilling experience for the fans to experience another Science fiction hit movie.

When Can Fans Expect District 10 Release?

It is still unclear how quickly District 10 will come together. Before the pandemic broke down production on Inferno, Blomkamp was working on it. He then changed his focus to work on Demonic. Eventually, Inferno took precedence over District 10. In addition, Blomkamp stated in 2017 that he has delayed starting a District 9 sequel because he wants to ensure it has the same conceptual resonance as the first film which fans can enjoy and relate to.

Actor Sharlto Copley has a prominent part in District 9. In the movie, he played the role of Wikus van de Merwe, a government agent tasked with coordinating the transfer of alien refugees. The success of the movie was attributed to Copley’s well-received performance in it.

The viral marketing effort for District 9 began during the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con, and both of these factors contributed to the film’s enormous success. Even more impressively, it received several Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture. So, it stands to reason that a sequel would be expedited as quickly as feasible. But the promised sequel never materialized. The causes include Blomkamp’s subsequent endeavors as well as his rise to stardom in Hollywood.
