“At what point do we just say, wtf?”: The Acolyte Pisses Off Star Wars Fans for Undermining an Extremely Powerful Sith Technique That Palpatine Struggled to Achieve
Star Wars is famous among different generations of people who enjoy the stories of the struggle between good and evil, space battles, and the mystical Force. At the core of the franchise, there is a complex background connecting the dots of different plots, prophecies, and the constant battle between good and evil in the Star Wars universe.
While the Star Wars series keeps on growing, each new project reveals new angles and secret elements of this complex saga. The recently released Disney+ series, The Acolyte, creates a buzz and some controversies among viewers as it explores unknown aspects of the Force.
The Acolyte‘s Controversial Narrative on Force Sensitives
Long before the Skywalker saga while being rooted in the High Republic period, The Acolyte presents an interesting and unexpected premise. The main protagonists of this story are the Witches of Brendok, the Force-sensitive beings who wield the Force unlike anyone else.
Throughout the series, viewers learn more about the existence of a force called Thread that connects all beings and can be manipulated by the Witches of Brendok. This revelation has caused controversy among fans of Star Wars over the inconsistency of this new narrative element and how it is applied in the show.
Palpatine had such a hard time cloning force sensitives (until moff Gideon) with all his power, knowledge of the force, and his unlimited resources, as well as the inability to create life.
And…Force senstivie life, mind you, which is even more impossible. The Sith, Jedi,…

Thank you! Several people seem to be missing this point. It affects Anakin's story because some random nobody witches did it first, and they made two. This affects Anakin's story.

The most debatable point is how creating Force-sensitive clones is easy for the Witches of Brendok. This is quite unlike the challenges that were experienced by the Sith Lord, Darth Sidious aka Emperor Palpatine, whose every effort at cloning Force-sensitive beings had so many challenges.
While The Acolyte continues to expand on the Witches of Brendok and their usage of the Force, which they call the Thread, it can be seen how the Force is quite different from that of the Jedi and Sith. These witches see the Force as a web that can be spun rather than a way that is meant to be followed.
Moreover, it is necessary to mention that The Acolyte takes place in a relatively unexplored period of Star Wars, which allows the possibility of new approaches to the Force, and the viewers get a chance to observe how the creators of the show add their perspectives.
The Witches of Brendok and the Jedi’s Dilemma
The series also focuses on the connections between Jedi, the Sith, and other Force-related groups and individuals that exist outside of the two factions. By watching the Brendok Witches, the viewers gain an understanding of how the Force can be seen and controlled by people with different experiences in the series. In addition to that, the show also shows Mae and Osha as the principal characters of the series and who are related to the origin of Anakin Skywalker.
The response of the Jedi to small cults and independent Force-using groups such as the Brendok witches adds depth to the plot. In the past, the Jedi Order has tended to be rather protective of Force users, sometimes regarding unaligned groups as either hostile or dangerous. Despite this, the series changes this dynamic and forces the Jedi to confront their own biases and the dangers that these self-sustaining Force users present.
The Acolyte has undoubtedly caused a stir within the Star Wars fandom. With the inclusion of powerful Force-sensitive witches and challenging the impossibility of cloning Force-sensitive persons, the series has raised a lot of controversies.
While some fans enjoy new angles and more context, others find themselves confused by what they consider continuity errors. However, The Acolyte manages to bring Star Wars fans a new angle and expand their perspectives on the galaxy far, far away.
The Acolyte is now streaming on Disney+.
