We already know that Netflix has already cast the four major roles for the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender series. More and more casting details are surfacing regarding this secret Netflix project that seems to be eluding everyone. The series has reportedly already started the process of roping in actors for other key supporting roles. And here are the details regarding the casting calls for the live action Avatar: the Last Airbender project.
The Illuminerdi reports major casting calls have been announced for five key supporting characters in the show.
And Then There Were Five
Uncle Iroh
The first major role Netflix intends to fill is af an east-Asian male in his late Fifties or early Sixties. The character in question is rumored to be the beloved Uncle Iroh. Further description of the character reads he is a top athletics coach who is now retired. He now “takes the time to smell the roses and taste the pleasures in life.”
Fire Lord Ozai
The second character that is reportedly being cast is none other than the Big bad Wolf – Fire Lord Ozai. The character will also be a series regular. Description for the character reads that he is an East-Asian man in his 40’s. He is stated as an obsessive perfectionist and the extremist CEO of a huge corporation who wants everyone working under him to live up to his fanatical standards. He is ruthless and brutal. His power-hungry nature makes him willing to sacrifice anything, even his own family, to become stronger and more influential.
Princess Azula
The next character being cast is a 15-016 year old East-Asian girl. The description sounds pretty much like Princess Azula, the infamous Fire Nation princess who eventually went insane. The character was voiced by Grey Griffin in the original animated show. Further character description only solidifies the notion that it is Princess Azula. The character is ambitious and single-mindedly focused on proving her worth to her father. She would even go far as to root out her own family members if she sees them as competition.
Monk Gyatso
The fourth character being cast is supposedly Gyatso. The actor required is said to be an East-Asian man in his 60’s. Gyatso was a father figure and mentor to Aang before the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads. He was the world’s greatest Airbender of his time. Known for his sense of humor and kind demeanor, Gyatso is a role the series needs to nail at all cost.
Admiral Zhao
The last casting call is for another East-Asian man in his 30’s. The character is said to be a career veteran, having enlisted in the navy since he was a teenager. While it is all speculation from our side, given the general description of the character and the fact that the show will be exploring the initial arcs of Avatar: the Last Airbender, this character is most likely Admiral Zhao. He is the Fire Nation Navy Officer who killed the Moon Spirit.
The live action Avatar series has already cast its major characters – Kiawentiio as Katara, Gordon Cormier as Aang, Dallas Liu as Zuko, and Ian Ousley as Sokka.
