With a diversity of shows made out of mangas and comics, fans are always participating in hearty debates that pit one show against the other. The most recent competition is over the supremacy of One Piece live-action show compared to Avatar: The Last Airbender. From cinematography to storytelling, every aspect is minutely analyzed and debated. However, the one true marker of success is undoubtedly the streaming numbers in this ever-growing digital age.

One Piece hit the streaming platform Netflix in August last year. It narrates the story of pirates who set out on an adventure to become the Pirate Kings by finding a valuable treasure called One Piece. The fantastical world opens a world of fascinating elements with intriguing characters and endless oceans. The show is based on the animated show, which is in turn inspired by the manga series created by Eiichiro Oda.

On the other hand, Netflix released another anime-inspired live-action series in February this year called Avatar: The Last Airbender. A live-action movie on the story premiered a few years back, which did not do so well. Fans were afraid history would repeat itself, and this live-action would perhaps not be as good either. However, the series did exceptionally well and assuaged fans’ fears. The series recounts the story of 12-year-old Aang, who is destined to be an Avatar, a master in bending elements.

The debate about which of the two live-action series is better than the other has been going on since the moment they appeared on the same platform. Recently, Nielsen Streaming released the number of minutes watched for a few shows, and the outcome is clear. The numbers have spoken, and Avatar: The Last Airbender has emerged victorious. Avatar: The Last Airbender garnered 2.6 billion minutes and watched in just its first four days of release on Netflix. Seems like fans were eager to see Aang back in action.

One Piece, in comparison, was streamed for 1.3 billion minutes in the same time span. It’s important to note that this data signifies viewing minutes for only the USA. When streaming details from other countries are taken into account, Netflix claimed that Avatar: The Last Airbender was only 15% ahead of One Piece. Nonetheless, being streaming for almost double the time of one show clearly reflects how Avatar: The Last Airbender has been phenomenally successful on Netflix.

ComicBook.com reported that One Piece is currently filming its second season in Cape Town, the same location where the first season was shot. No official release date has been announced yet.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was renewed for two seasons together. Walking in the animated show’s footsteps, the series is set to have 3 seasons, packed with adrenaline-pumping action and hilarious quips. Season 2 and 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender are yet to go under production, so their release date is unclear as of yet. Fans can’t wait to reignite the debate again once both shows premiere the upcoming seasons.
