Thunderbolts is one of those highly anticipated MCU projects whose release date had to be pushed multiple times due to the delay in development owing to the months-long WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike. Every once in a while, a thing or two keeps spilling out of the tight wraps under which MCU keeps the details of all of its projects.

The MCU has seen many superhero team-ups throughout the years so Thunderbolts is going to be the first villain team-up which is going to be a refreshing new take for the fans of the franchise. Recently, an industry insider has made confirmations regarding the absence of the character Baron Zemo in the movie.

Baron Zemo Will Not Be There in Thunderbolts

Fans have expressed the need for a Thunderbolts movie for years before the announcement of the movie was made. Due to the sly recruitment activities of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine during MCU’s Phase 4, fans deduced that their wish might get fulfilled. As it turns out, they were.

While there has been confirmation regarding the casting of quite a few characters in the time since the announcement, there has been no significant news about Baron Zemo. However, recently, an industry insider has alleged that Zemo will, in fact, not be in the movie which rivals the claims of another person who claimed that the Captain America adversary would be recruited by the Thunderbolts in the second act.

Considering Baron Zemo plays an important role in the formation of the Thunderbolts team in the comics, fans are not too impressed with this new claim made by the insider. However, with MCU’s obsession with staying very secretive about its projects, one can only wait until an official announcement is made regarding Zemo. Hopefully, the MCU is smart enough to not make decisions that would upset fans given the current predicament of the franchise.

Thunderbolts is going to have an ensemble cast as a lot of characters have been recast which implies that there might not be too many surprise additions. Even so, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Harrison Ford as General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Val, and David Harbour as Red Guardian in the lineup is good enough to keep the audience hooked.

Not so long ago, Wyatt Russell and his father, legendary actor Kurt Russell engaged in a long conversation at 92 Ny, where Josh Horwitz was the moderator. When Wyatt Russell was questioned about his role in Thunderbolts, he assured everyone that the upcoming movie was going to be good (via The Hollywood Reporter), saying:

“I have confidence it’s gonna be good. I know Jake so well and I know how smart Jake is and how much he cares about making something interesting and different and utilizing everyone’s talents to the best of their ability. And the story that I think they’ve come up with is really interesting — I know parts of the story and how the story works, I can’t talk about it. But it’s not a straightforward Marvel movie as you’ve seen in the past.”

That is quite something coming from someone who is directly involved with the movie. Hopefully, fans will not disappointed by this new movie which is scheduled to be released on July 25, 2025.
