Buggy the Clown has been one character that fans have loved throughout the series. Despite being one of the first antagonists of the series, Buggy has been treated as a comedic relief character for the majority of the series. But there is way more than meets the eye of the beloved One Piece villain.

Buggy, despite not being an exceptionally strong character, has managed to become a Yonko. Unlike the other Yonkos, Buggy managed to attain the position by using the strengths of other characters. However, chapter 1082 completely changed how people perceived the clown pirate.

Buggy’s rise to becoming a Yonko certainly has certainly been a head-scratcher for most people following the series. Fueled by sheer luck and circumstances, Buggy has managed to become one of the most influential pirates in the One Piece series.

Though many people don’t seem to accept Buggy’s title as a Yonko because of how much weaker he is compared to Luffy, Shanks, and Blackbeard. But what they seem to understand is that his strength comes not from his physicality but from his ability to control strong characters such as Mihawk and Crocodile along with the Cross Guild.

Though initially used by Mihawk and Crocodile to control the Cross Guild, Buggy, in chapter 1082, lectures Crocodile and Mihawk on what it means to be a pirate while declaring that he would go on the path to becoming the pirate king. However, despite his head resembling a hanging flower pot in the panel, his words would eventually get through to the two former warlords.

But his alliance with Crocodile and Mihawk isn’t all, as the Yonko has been acknowledged by some of the strongest characters in the series such as White Beard and Shanks, and worked under likes of the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger himself along with Shanks. He was also the only villain throughout the One Piece series that managed to leave lasting damage to Luffy’s straw hat.

What are Buggy The Clown’s chances of becoming the Pirate King in One Piece?

As mentioned earlier, sheer dumb luck played a massive factor in Buggy becoming an Emperor. However, despite being way weaker than the other Yonkos, the Clown Pirate has just as much chance as the others to become the Pirate King.

Despite being a weak combatant, Buggy somehow has a way with people that makes them loyal to the clown pirate. Given the loyalty of the Cross Guild as well as his alliance with the strongest swordsman and one of the most cunning strategists in the entire series, Buggy’s crew can stand their own against the likes of the other emperors.

However, that being said, is Buggy the most likely candidate to become the Pirate King? Probably not. However, this goes for all the other Yonkos not named Monkey D. Luffy, simply given the fact that the entire series revolves around him becoming the Pirate King. Eiichiro Oda could throw the biggest curve ball by making someone else the Pirate King. However, the chances of that happening are incredibly slim.
