“He is dead now, isn’t he”: Charlie Cox Wants a Iron Man-Daredevil Crossover in MCU, Wants Robert Downey Jr’s Return After His Death in Avengers: Endgame
Charlie Cox started playing Matt Murdoch/Daredevil in the Netflix series in 2015. The character has now joined the wider MCU, with appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk. Cox is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Cox recently revealed his hopes to have a Daredevil and Iron Man crossover in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, there is one obvious challenge – Iron Man/Tony Stark was killed in Avengers: Endgame.
Will Charlie Cox Get His Dream of Iron Man-Daredevil Crossover in the MCU?
Charlie Cox during the Wales Comic Con stated,
“I was actually catching up on some of the comics recently, and I was reading one from 2020 where Daredevil and Iron Man have a bit of a run-in together, which is quite fun.” He further said “I don’t think that’s possible now, because he’s dead, isn’t he? But you know, it’s Marvel, who knows. For a personal reason, I think that would be cool to have that little moment.”
The actor spoke highly of Robert Downey Jr.‘s impact on the MCU, saying:
“This whole cinematic Marvel kind of decade and a half, two decades, or whatever it’s been, where it’s really been a staple of so many people’s entertainment consumption, a lot of that I think is a credit to Robert Downey Jr. and the work he did with that character. That kind of, I almost sometimes think of Marvel as the House That Downey Built.”
So could Downey Jr. return as Tony Stark/Iron Man despite his character’s death? As Cox stated, “It’s Marvel, who knows.” While Stark’s death in Endgame seemed definitive, the MCU has seen characters return through multiverse stories, time travel, flashbacks, and more.
What would an Iron Man-Daredevil crossover look like?
In the comics, Iron Man and Daredevil have crossed paths many times as fellow street-level heroes based in New York City. Their moral codes and crimefighting methods sometimes clash, leading to conflict.
A Daredevil vs. Iron Man battle on screen could make for an exciting storyline. Or perhaps they could team up to take down a common enemy, like Wilson Fisk. Stark’s wealth and resources could help further Daredevil’s cause. An Iron Man cameo via footage/audio recordings, AI hologram, or alternate universe version could also allow for an interaction.
While a true Iron Man and Daredevil team-up may not be possible post-Endgame, Cox and fans can still hope for some version of this crossover.
Daredevil: Born Again is set to stream on Disney+ in early 2024, so fans don’t have long to wait!
