To do justice to a character, especially one from a rich universe like that of superheroes, an actor needs to do their research and learn the journey of the character. They will not be able to deliver an outstanding performance if they’re not aware of the hero’s struggles and conflicts. In an interview with Comicbook, Charlie Hunnam revealed that he was indeed offered the role of Green Arrow in Zack Snyder’s DCU.

“I don’t know who Green Arrow is so I don’t want to offend anyone. I looked at one picture and I was like, ‘I’m not sure green’s my color and I’m pretty sure spandex isn’t my material.’ Beyond that, I was like, one image, ‘Thanks, not interested.’”

He further shared that he did not speak to Snyder but a few men in suits brought him the proposal. They were very excited to cast Hunnam as Green Arrow in the movies. However, the actor did not share their enthusiasm and politely turned down the role. After hearing this news, many fans have been saddened because they have been casting Hunnam as Green Arrow since the mid-2010s.

November 1941 saw the first appearance of Green Arrow in the comics, created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp. On top of a small role in Smallville, Green Arrow had his own TV show on The CW that spanned eight seasons. Stephen Amell donned the Green Arrow suit in the series.

While there has been no official confirmation on Green Arrow appearing in Gunn’s rebooted and renewed DCU, he does admit that the superhero is one of his favorite characters. It will be exciting to see Gunn take on the archer’s story and give it a new spin. Reportedly, Amell has expressed interest in returning as the archer in the upcoming movies. Gunn and Amell might collaborate to showcase a new Green Arrow arc in the rebooted DCU.
