Chris Pratt Says The $320M Netflix Movie He’s Starring in Is “Wildly Original”
- Chris Pratt stars opposite Millie Bobby Brown in upcoming sci-fi film The Electric State.
- Pratt claimed that the concept of this new movie is "wildly original".
- Director Anthony Russo gave a detailed insight into the plot of the Netflix flick.
Chris Pratt has briefly escaped from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and stepped into an entirely new one, but not quite, because he has joined forces with Marvel directors Anthony and Joe Russo for his next movie. This is not a bad thing at all because the Russo brothers are one of the most well-known filmmakers in Hollywood.
Pratt has taken a different role in the upcoming Netflix movie, The Electric State, which also stars Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things. The Parks and Recreation star has nothing but nice things to say about the sci-fi movie, which features an ensemble cast and has a pretty huge budget for a streaming film.
Chris Pratt insists the script of The Electric State is “wildly original”
Chris Pratt had a tough start in Hollywood and it took him years to gain recognition as an actor. His breakthrough came in 2009 when he started starring as Andy Dwyer in the NBC mockumentary sitcom, Parks and Recreation. He was catapulted to global stardom with two big franchise roles- Star-Lord in MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World trilogy.
Pratt has been unstoppable ever since as he has also done voice work in some of the highest-grossing animated movies like The Lego Movie franchise, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and The Garfield Movie. He is widely known for his sense of humor, but his new role in The Electric State also needed him to serve drama, so what the audience is going to witness in the movie will be peak cinema.
In the $320 million Netflix flick, Pratt takes on the role of Keats, an ally to Millie Bobby Brown’s Michelle, who is looking for her brother in the post-war aftermath of a failed robot uprising. Referring to the movie’s script, the Passengers star told Entertainment Weekly: “It was wildly original…[and] so inventive, and so, so beautiful.“
He further went on to say:
To be able to join a project like this and to work with the Russo brothers again [after Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame], to work with Millie, of whom I’ve been a huge fan, was just something I had to do.
He also said that it was “one of the best scripts” he had ever read. The film is undoubtedly going to be great considering the kind of talent attached to it. So, fans need to buckle up to go on one hell of a ride when it gets released next year.
Anthony Russo gives a glimpse into what The Electric State is about
Besides Pratt and Brown, The Electric State also features Ke Huy Quan, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, and Woody Norman. Additionally, the robot characters are voiced by Woody Harrelson, Colman Domingo, Alan Tudyk, Jenny Slate, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Cox. The film is based on Simon Stålenhag’s illustrated novel of the same name.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Anthony Russo gave a glimpse into the plot of the action-adventure comedy. He said:
Millie plays a character who has lost her family in the war but realizes her brother may still be alive. So she begins a cross-country road trip through the American West looking for her brother. Along the way, she encounters the character played by Chris Pratt, who becomes an ally to her in that quest. They become partners in crime, so to speak.
The movie is set in an alternate version of the ’90s where humanity has won over the robots who tried to take over the society, but failed to do so. By the sound of it, this will be another visual treat from Anthony and Joe Russo.
The Electric State is scheduled to be released by Netflix on March 14, 2025.
