Darkseid’s First Words To Thanos Was Such A Perfect Insult Even The Gauntlet Can’t Cure Those Burns
Who is better? Some say Darkseid. The others go for Thanos. The war between Marvel and DC fans and Thanos and Darkseid fans rages on. The God of Evil of the DC Universe is the ruler of Apokolips and one of the strongest beings in the universe. Thanos is an Eternal who was considered an abomination because of his strength and prowess. He literally has a cult dedicated to worshipping him. Both the DC and Marvel villains have amassed a huge fan following over the years. But who would win in a fight between the two?
Well we would not comment on that. Although if its a war of words, we are pretty sure who might come out on top. Thanos and Darkseid have met in the comics before. The Mad Titan and the Ruler of Apokolips have met in a Marvel-DC crossover arc many years ago. When Darkseid met Thanos for the first time, he was not impressed. He even went as far as telling Thanos that the latter’s just a “pale imitation” trying to steal his thunder.
Chronologically speaking, Darkseid did come first. he debuted a full three years before Thanos made his appearance in the comic books of Marvel. Not just the looks, even both their personalities match. Darkseid is in search of the Anti-Life Equation – a mathematical formula that proves life is meaningless and turns sentient beings into mindless drones. Thanos has laid his hands on some of the most powerful artefacts in the world in search for universal dominance. Everything from the Infinity Gems to the Heart of the Universe have fallen into his grasp at a point of time.
When artist Jim Starlin first came up with Thanos, he was never intending to copy Darkseid. Instead, Starlin was modeling Thanos on Metron, another DC New God. It was Marvel’s then Editor in Chief who said that if Starlin was going to copy DC, then at least copy the very best of them all. And thus Thanos was born. He is indeed a copy of Darkseid. Many Marvel fans might be questioning their existence right now.
In Marvel Comics Versus DC #2, many heroes of Marvel and DC Comics were pitted against each other. Flash, Batman, and Superman fought Quicksilver, Captain America, and the Hulk. Many other match ups happened. While Thanos and Darkseid did not officially fight, they did have an intriguing conversation so to speak. Thanos and darkseid agreed to a wager as to which universe’s heroes would win. To that, Darkseid gave a mother of all insulting retorts.
“I wager, you pale imitation of me… that you will lose.”
Both the super villains would then be attacked and dispatched by the superheroes of both universes. The two comic entities that were responsible for the cosmic commotion were also dealt with. Thanos and Darkseid never meet again. But the only time they did, Darkseid clearly was the wittier of the two. It takes talent to stand up to the Mad Titan and deliver such a witty insulting one-liner to make Thanos go crying back to his mommy.
