Deadpool 3, the most anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU) movie, is going to serve as a sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). After nearly half a decade since the release of Deadpool 2, fans have been very eager to find out what’s next for the wisecracking mercenary ever since it was announced that a sequel is in the making.

A few years ago, Disney acquired Fox and since then, Marvel Studios has been slowly but steadily exercising its rights to Fox’s X-Men characters. This has led it to the point that it will finally bridge the gap between the MCU and Fox’s X-Men Universe with Deadpool 3. However, this decision might not end well for the movie.

Deadpool 3‘s Future is in Danger, Thanks to Marvel Studios

According to Hollywood industry insider Daniel Richtman’s Patreon, Deadpool 3 is not going to be the classic Merc with a Mouth movie centered on his antics as it is going to be one of the most important movies of Marvel’s ongoing Multiverse Saga. Reportedly, it is going to work as the setup to the events of 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

Being the only MCU movie slated for release in 2024, Richtman’s claims regarding Deadpool 3 cannot be overlooked. This, however, means that Wade Wilson aka Deadpool will now have to shoulder some very important responsibilities which are very dissimilar to what the character has done so far.

Deadpool has long established his reputation as an agent of chaos. He is not the stereotypical superhero who can be relied upon to reshape entire universes. The secret behind the success of the first two movies revolving around this anti-hero was them being light action comedies that were only meant for the entertainment of fans rather than serving a major purpose in the X-Men Universe.

Marvel’s decision to change this entirely is rather risky as this new take on the character might not sit well with fans. While it is hard to predict the future of the movie right now, it will not take too long to find out its fate once the first critics’ ratings pour in.

As revealed in the new tell-all book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, the President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige was never happy about the fact that some other studios had rights to Marvel characters because this allowed Marvel Studios to have very little say in the production of the projects. Even so, there were chances that their opinions would go unheeded.

Disney’s acquisition of Fox allowed Marvel Studios complete control over the X-Men universe. The studios have been putting it to good use so far as Professor X was seen in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and then Beast was seen in the mid-credits scene of the recently released MCU movie The Marvels.

Deadpool 3 is set to feature Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Fans had been hoping that this would be the first MCU movie to have a weightlessness about it and not another addition to the all-encompassing Multiverse Saga. Deadpool’s lack of involvement with the rest of the universe would have let him have as many canon-breaking jokes as he wanted. However, this will not be the case anymore.
