SUMMARY
  • The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer Deadpool & Wolverine is finally out and has received rave reviews.
  • The film franchise is known for its amazing soundtracks which have layered pop culture references.
  • The threequel does not fall behind and has a great collection of classic bangers.

Ever since Deadpool began with the hilarious opening credits edited to Angel of the Morning by Juice Newton, the franchise’s soundtrack has been an irreplaceable part of the film. From Salt-N-Pepa’s Shoop to Celine Dion’s Ashes, the highly emotive soundtracks to the Deadpool films have added a lot of flavor to the already stylistic films.

The recently released threequel Deadpool & Wolverine also has a banger soundtrack, with prominent songs from *NSYNC, Fergie, and Madonna. While the latter’s Like A Prayer acts as a theme for the film and has been featured in multiple trailers, the other songs also complement the scenes in the film.

1. Only You (And You Alone) By The Platters

The popular ‘50s pop song is performed by the vocal group The Platters has been covered multiple times. The Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr made a cover of it too for his album Goodbye, Vienna, with the guitar being played by his bandmate John Lennon. The song appears in Deadpool & Wolverine in the opening stretches of the film. It has also been featured in multiple other shows, films, and games, most recently in Fallout.

2. Bye Bye Bye By *NSYNC

What is a Deadpool soundtrack without some ‘90s and 2000s pop songs for the merc-with-the-mouth to kill to? The lead single from the boy band’s third album No Strings Attached is featured in the opening credits of Deadpool & Wolverine as he clashes with members of the TVA while on his mission to find Wolverine. With Justin Timberlake’s vocals and a peppy beat, the bloody action sequence adds a stylistic flair to Deadpool’s brutal killings.

3. Angel of the Morning By Merrilee Rush and The Turnabouts

Last heard in the opening credits of the first Deadpool, the soundtrack for its threequel features the cover version by Merilee Rush and the Turnabouts. Ryan Reynolds reportedly suggested the Juice Newton cover in the first film to contrast the mayhem that happens on screen while the song was playing (via EW). In the threequel, one of the earliest recorded versions of the song is featured.

4. SLASH By The Stray Kids

The Korean boy band produced and performed the song SLASH for the Ryan Reynolds starrer and even included Korean lyrics in the track. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had already collaborated with the band once by appearing in the music video for Chk Chk Boom, where they appeared as Deadpool and Wolverine. According to Teen Vogue, The Stray Kids were supposed to have a cameo in the film by the WGA, and SAG-AFTRA strikes made it a logistical nightmare for them to make it.

5. Glamorous By Fergie

Another pop song for the Merc-with-the-mouth to do some action, Fergie’s Glamorous is one of the most popular songs of the early 2000s. Featuring Ludacris, the song became number one on the Billboard Top 100, making it the pop star’s second number-one hit. It was also certified double platinum. It is featured in the movie when Deadpool suits up for the first time.

6. Iris By The Goo Goo Dolls

The song was first written for the film City of Angels, which had Nicolas Cage in the lead role. According to the composer John Rzeznik, the band was taken to a viewing of the film, and the song was reportedly written specifically for Nicolas Cage’s character (via SongFacts). The song charted at number 9 on the Billboard Top 100.

7. The Power Of Love By Huey Lewis

The pop-rock song by Huey Lewis was initially written for Back to the Future and features heavily in the trilogy. The song hit number 1 on the US Billboard Top 100 and was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

8. I’m A Ramblin Man By Waylon Jennings

The country song was recorded way back in 1967 by noted country singer Waylon Jennings and charted up to 29 on the country music charts. The song is briefly played in the montage where Deadpool goes to find a new anchor being for his universe.

9. You Belong To Me By Patsy Cline

The ballad has been featured in multiple shows, games, and movies, including The White Lotus and this year’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The song is also featured in films such as The Irishman, The Nun, Carol, and Peggy Sue Got Married.

10. The Lady In Red By Chris DeBurgh

The soft rock song is played when Deadpool & Wolverine’s new favorite character, Mary Puppins a.k.a Dogpool comes running to her new papa. The song has been featured in multiple films, including American Psycho and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.

11. I’m With You By Avril Lavigne

While Taylor Swift’s cameo turned out to be a hoax much to the disappointment (and happiness) of a lot of fans, another pop star did make an aural appearance in the film. Avril Lavigne’s I’m With You features in the film when Wade and Logan drive through the void to go to the borderlands.

12. The Greatest Show By The Greatest Showman Cast

In one of the many allusions to Hugh Jackman’s love for musicals, Deadpool & Wolverine features the titular song from the actor’s circus musical The Greatest Showman in a brief moment. The song is played when Wolverine and Deadpool fight inside the car in the void and the former bangs Deadpool’s head on the radio multiple times.

13. You’re The Only One I Want By Olivia Newton-John

Originally recorded for John Travolta’s musical Grease, the song is also played in the car-fight sequence in Deadpool & Wolverine. The song was one of the best-selling singles of all time and reached number one in several countries.

14. I’ll Be Seeing You By Jimmy Durante

Another musical favorite, the song has been featured in multiple shows and films, including Misery. The song has been widely covered by artists such as Bing Crosby, Brenda Lee, Norah Jones, and Ann Hampton Callaway.

15. Make Me Lose Control By Eric Carmen

Performed by The Raspberries’ Eric Carmen, Make Me Lose Control charted in a number of countries and was part of Carmen’s greatest hits compilations. It did not feature in any album but is often considered to be one of the greatest soft rock songs.

16. You’re All I Need To Get By By Aretha Franklin

The classic song plays at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine after the climactic ‘saving of the timeline’. Logan ends up hanging out with Deadpool and his friends and family and begins to move on from his demons.

17. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) By Green Day

One of the highlights of the film was the behind-the-scenes montage of the X-Men films played to Green Day’s Good Riddance. The montage acts as a tribute to Fox Studios which was acquired by Disney in 2019, enabling the X-Men and other Marvel characters to return to the MCU.

18. LFG Theme By Rob Simonsen

The tagline of Deadpool & Wolverine is ‘Let’s F*ckin Go’, which is uttered by the two stalwarts who are sharing the screen for the first time as their characters. The song closes the film as the credits roll.
