With this year’s Comic-Con event, Marvel announced their exciting upcoming movies that have left fans speechless. From Robert Downey Jr returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom to the Russo Brothers directing the next Avengers ensemble movies, Marvel is finally getting things right to delight the fandom once again.

Deadpool & Wolverine was very rightly one of the most anticipated movies this year. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s chemistry coupled with hilarious jokes and a nostalgia callback to the most famous Marvel projects truly made the movie a winner. Along with several cameos, Deadpool & Wolverine also featured a few easter eggs that will leave you puzzled.

The entire movie talks about how the Time Variance Authority tracks everyone and everything from all the timelines possible. Even one step out of line, people are arrested for messing with the order of things. While the trailer hinted at something darker, Deadpool & Wolverine eventually showcased how the TVA wanted Deadpool to help them annihilate his universe.

He doesn’t agree to do so and goes on to find Wolverine who can help him win. What follows is a complicated turn of events as Deadpool and Wolverine keep fighting due to their polar opposite personalities. In one such scene, the duo fights it out on an expansive wasteland without anything of note to be found around.

Here, while Deadpool is lying flat on the ground after being beaten up by Wolverine, we can see a tattered comic book beside him. The comic’s headline reads Secret Wars. On further inspection, we find that the comic is actually Secret Wars #5 by Jonathan Hickman, Esad Ribic, and Ive Svorcina.

Fans are eager to deduce what it actually means. With the subsequent announcement that Marvel will release Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Doomsday, it will be a fair assumption to believe the Fantastic Four movie will introduce Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and eventually make him the central villain for the Avengers movies. Moreover, the fifth edition of the Secret Wars comic may actually be the one Marvel eventually adapts for the movie.

The comic book Secret Wars #5 features another variation of Doctor Doom called God Emperor Doom. The story positions Doom at the center with Doctor Strange’s death kicking off a string of unexpected events. More characters including the Molecule Man and Beyonders are also featured in the story. However, these have not yet been included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it’s difficult to gauge whether this comic book will make the foundation for the movie.

The characters who are already a part of the MCU and who feature in the comic book include Thor, Namor, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther. Elsewhere we also see Thanos, Miles Morales, and Star-Lord make an appearance in the comic. Most of these characters continue to be an integral part of the Marvel universe so there’s a high possibility of all of them appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars.

Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027.
