George R. R. Martin is all set to bring to the fans a prequel of HBO’s Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The fantasy drama television series is based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas and is produced by Martin, Ira Parker, Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Sarah Bradshaw, and Owen Harris.

The most interesting thing about the series is the fact that it is set to feature 3 characters from the original HBO series. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is bringing back Master Aemon Targaryen, Walder Frey, and Brynden Rivers/Three-Eyed Raven (via Lore Ramble on Instagram).

All these characters will be in their younger version in the show as the show is set almost a century before the events of Game of Thrones. Walder Frey especially will be shown in the show as a petulant child whom Dunk considers throwing away.

Dunk and Egg spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, revolves around the courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Peter Claffey will play the role of Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell is assigned the role of Egg. Finn Bennett, Sam Spruell, Daniel Ings, and Tanzyn Crawford are a few other names who are a part of this project.

Although the show is a prequel to the original Game of Thrones, creator George R. R. Martin is pretty confident that fans will find significant differences between the two shows. In one of his blogs, Martin wrote the new spin-off,

Will be a lot shorter than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, with a much different tone.

However, he also added that no matter the difference in the tone, it’s still Westeros, and hence no one is truly safe. It remains to be seen how the show fares with the fans upon release. The show was initially ordered by HBO in 2023 (via Variety) and finally, fans of Game of Thrones can enjoy the spin-off in late 2025.
