Expert Reveals That PS5 And Xbox Series X Could Cost Way More Than The Base $400
The upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X have certainly captured audience attention with their rumoured features and games. But if there’s one thing that is also a deciding factor then it’s the price. If the reports are to be believed then people better get ready to pay a steep price for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
But first let us take a look at the features (also that music feature tho- we love that) of PS5 and X-Box Series X;
How Much Will PS5 and X-Box Series X Will Cost?
Daniel Ahmad, Senior Analyst at Niko Partners says that the PS5 and Xbox Series X may be a bit more pricey than expected. Ahmad is a prominent industry analyst and he recently noted that PS5 and Xbox Series X will surely struggle to launch at $400 or below. This is because the CPU, GPU, NVMe SSD, and GDDR6 memory by themselves would cost more than half this price. If Sony and Microsoft do go forward with that $400 price range then they could take some serious hits.
On the other hand, console makers suffer losses upfront all the time as well. What is less common is sustaining considerable losses steadily. Check out his tweets below and decide for yourself regarding this matter:

Will PS5 and X-Box Series X Launch At $400?
Overall, it won’t be smart to rule out the $400 price range of PS5 and Xbox Series X. But it also looks unlikely given the sheer range of loss Sony and Microsoft would make. Ahmad says in his tweet that:
My point is the build cost of these next gen consoles will be higher, meaning a sub $400 retail price would lead to a heavy loss per unit sold.
I don't think it'll be as bad as PS3, which cost $800 to build at launch (Sold for $500). But it's something to keep in mind.

Inspite of mentioning the above, Ahmad again reiterates that the PS3, which cost around $800 to make, was sold at $500. So he isn’t ruling out any possibility.
Ahmad also says that the Xbox Series X probably cost $460 to $520 to make. But he also added that this is just an estimate and doesn’t include the money spent on R&D.
Right now I’m expecting the bill of materials + manufacturing cost for a Series X console to come in around the $460 to $520 mark. (This isn’t the retail price).
Of course this is a very early estimate and could be wildly off. I’ll update this once more info is confirmed.
