Internet has been abuzz regarding news of Morbius. With all of the recent leaks regarding it, the first trailer for Morbius has finally dropped starring Jared Leto as the titular character. Based on the trailer it seems like Sony is hoping to establish its own universe.

Morbius is directed by someone who has a background in both sci-fi and action, just like Venom. Just like Venom, it too stars a critically acclaimed actor in the titular role. Just like Venom, it has a troubled character who gets powers that he find difficult to control. That’s not all, just like Venom, Morbius too seems to be using the same dark blue tinged color palette as 2018’s Tom Hardy-led box office smash hit about Spider-Man’s symbiotic nemesis.

Morbius Set In The MCU?

The one thing which drew a lot of attention was the Spider-Man shot in the background of the trailer. If that wasn’t enough to raise hopes of Holland’s Spider-Man appearing in Morbius then the trailer boasting that it hails from the same studio which made both Homecoming and Far From Home certainly indicates that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker could become part of the franchise in the future.

That’s not all, the appearance of Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes seems to indicate that Morbius takes place in the same timeline as MCU’s Spider-Man. But Sony has a very bad habit of revealing the post credits or ending scenes of their Spider-Man related or Spider-Man movies in the trailers itself. For example the last shot of Spider-Man: Homecoming that showed Aunt May discovering Peter’s identity was in the trailer, Venom’s infamous ‘turd in the wind’ sequence from the very last scene was also used as promo material too and Far From Home mid-credits scene of the Spidey taking MJ for a spin around the city was also in the trailers.

This makes us think that the Keaton appearance is going to be in the ending scene or post credits scene of Morbius. While we get Sony’s need to connect their universe to the MCU but we would also like some secrets to remain secrets and hit us right in the movie hall itself rather than while watching a trailer for the movie.
