There was no shortage of villains and evil beings in Westeros. Everyone was driven by their own agenda with one common goal – to claim the Iron Throne. Much like the real world, the fictional world of Game of Thrones also favored Kings over Queens. That would explain why Rhaenyra Targaryen has such a tough time claiming her birthright in House of the Dragon.

The Queen who did manage to sit on the Iron Throne for longer before being dethroned by Daenerys’s army – Cersei Lannister epitomized true power. She was ruthless in her decisions and managed to bring the entire kingdom to its knees. Cersei did not need the support of her father, her brother, or her drunkard husband to get where she wanted to go. Along the way, she tried being a model wife and mother, but all that did was give her grief.

In the end, she claimed the throne for herself, thereby giving actress Lena Headey a chance to showcase her true potential and range in acting. From the walk of shame without a single piece of clothing to mercilessly killing Daenerys’s advisor and close friend Misandei, Headey’s Cersei never wavered from her true purpose.

Nevertheless, the actress did not win an Emmy Award for her exceptional performance in Game of Thrones despite being nominated five times. Her prowess remained unappreciated by the Television Academy whereas her costar Peter Dinklage won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series four times!

This is not to compare the two actors’ performances since they both managed to enchant the audience in their own unique ways, but to show the disparity that existed in appreciating a woman’s negative character on screen.
