Ghost Rider Celebrates His 50th Birthday & Marvel Declares 2022 The Year Of Vengeance
What are Marvel Comics’ plans for Ghost Rider in the coming year?
In the coming year, Marvel Comics has huge plans for Ghost Rider. The publisher issued a teaser image of Johnny Blaze and the many versions of Ghost Rider, along with the tagline “The Year of Vengeance,” indicating a celebration of the series in 2022. Along with this picture, Marvel revealed that a new Ghost Rider ongoing series will be released next year to coincide with the character’s 50th anniversary. This will be the first Ghost Rider series since writer Ed Brisson’s stint on the character came to an end during the King in Black crossover event.
Characters shown in the teaser image by Ryan Stegman and Marte Garcia:
Other characters seen in Ryan Stegman and Marte Garcia’s teaser artwork include the Prehistoric Ghost Rider of 1,000,000 B.C., Danny Ketch, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Spirit Rider, Ghost Rider 2099, Vengeance, Robbie Reyes, and Alejandra Jones, among others. The Phantom Rider, a hero from the Old West who used the moniker Ghost Rider before Johnny’s conception, is also depicted. Though he has no direct relationship to the other spirits of vengeance, he was included in the 2007 Ghost Rider film as the Caretaker. The Phantom Rider hasn’t been seen since the War of the Realms, hence his presence in this image is one of the image’s major mysteries.
History Of Ghost Rider Aka Johnny Blaze:
Gary Friedrich, Mike Ploog, and Roy Thomas developed Johnny Blaze, who originally appeared in Marvel Spotlight issue #5 in 1972. Johnny was a motorcycle stunt driver before receiving the spirit of vengeance, and he made a bargain with the demon Mephisto in return for the life of his surrogate father. The Ghost Rider has appeared in cinema, animation, and other media in the years since his introduction. He is one of several Marvel characters planned to feature in the video game Midnight Suns.
Who is this recent character Spirit Rider?
The character of Spirit Rider has recently been gracing the pages of Marvel Comics. Kushala is the mid-nineteenth-century Ghost Rider as well as the Sorcerer Supreme of her day. She first appeared in Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme and is the subject of a digital Infinity comic series that focuses on Kushala’s history through her ancestor Olivia Oberta. While fans must wait to see what “The Year of Vengeance” has in store for Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes will feature in the upcoming series, Avengers Forever. The book, written by Jason Aaron and drawn by Aaron Kuder, is a spin-off from the Avengers that centres on a multiverse iteration of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Reyes has appeared in Jason Aaron’s Avengers series since its inception in 2018.
