Warning: Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #261

The recent chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen have sent the fandom into chaos since they hint at Gojo Satoru’s possible comeback.

The battle against Sukuna has been full of plot twists, but few people thought that Gojo would actually make a comeback, particularly in light of Gege Akutami’s distaste for the character and the resolution that came with his passing. Nevertheless, chapter #261 has now provided clarification, indicating that Gojo’s return was made possible by Yuta Okkotsu’s unanticipated sacrifice.

In Chapter #261, it is revealed that Yuta has used Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique to take control of Gojo’s body. This means that the ghost Sukuna saw at the end of the previous chapter was indeed Gojo and not just his hallucination.

The chapter describes how Yuta entered Gojo’s body and used the Reversed Cursed Technique to complete the repairs after Shoko and the medical team were able to patch up just enough of his body. Therefore, even though Gojo has officially made a comeback, Yuta is merely manipulating his body like a puppet, and Gojo is essentially a ghost of himself.

To add to the wound, it has been confirmed that Gojo Satoru is not coming back, and Gege Akutami has verified it.

An X user, @Infinity_Ex1sts, posted Gege Akutami‘s comments on the cover of volume 26 and the accompanying visuals. The comment reads: “Originally, as I had planned, Gojo was supposed to be drawn with a camellia flower, but he lost…. That’s why he’s drawn with a flower that looks like a camellia, it’s not a camellia, it’s a different camellia…”

The post explains that the camellia we originally thought of is 椿(Tsubaki), but Akutami drew 山茶花(sadzanka), all because Satoru lost. Through Tsubaki, everyone was building a theory of rebirth, but the problem is that it was only an illusion.

Camellias have major significance in Japan, likely due to their association with the concept of “a noble death” in samurai culture. However, since Gojo was defeated by Sukuna, Akutami used a different flower instead.

Ever since Satoru’s tragic death at the hands of Ryomen Sukuna, fans have been begging for his return, and Akutami made that happen in the most twisted way possible. Nevertheless, by taking this path, Yuta will be able to utilize Limitless to its maximum capacity with the Six Eyes, which was the main objective of employing Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique to control Gojo’s corpse, guaranteeing that Gojo’s return won’t be in vain.

But as Mei Mei notes in chapter #261, there are still doubts about Yuta’s ability to withstand the ordeal. There is a lack of information regarding the precise workings of Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique, including whether it must be employed once for the transfer or at frequent intervals.

The first two scenarios are a cause of concern since Yuta can only utilize a cloned Cursed Technique for five minutes at a time, and if he has to reactivate Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique in order to keep his soul in Gojo’s body, he might not survive.
