It’s time to put a hold on your Thanksgiving plans. Netflix has just invited the world over to Grandma’s place for a surprise dinner! Surprise Thanksgiving invitations are all in now and this heartwarming tale we are talking about started about six years ago when a Granma living in Arizona invited a complete stranger to her Thanksgiving feast. An accidental text meant for her grandson resulted in confusion, after which she genuinely asked the person to come and “share Thanksgiving” with her family. The story went viral on social media and it went so popular that Netflix decided to do something about it. The only response that is logical? Make it into a feature film.

As reported by Variety, “The Thanksgiving Text” will tell the story of Wanda Dench, a grandmother and a stranger named Jamal Hilton who would later go on to become her lifelong friend. The internet has been swooning over friendship for the past six years now, so we might as well enjoy its dramatization.

The story will begin from the accidental text, which led Hinton to make a 25-minute drive to spend Thanksgiving in Mesa, Arizona with a woman he had never met previously. “The Thanksgiving Text” isn’t the successor to Get Out, even spiritually. It’s just a very sweet tale of unexpected friendship, similar to the newly released “Mixedtape.”

The screenplay is to be penned down by Abdul Williams for the film, while no other announcements have been made yet. George Tilman, Robert Teitel, and Lawrence Mott are serving as producers on the film.

It’s time to get ready for some heartstring-tugging, as”The Thanksgiving Text” has nothing but kindness. The story started when Jamal Hinton, who is a high school senior at that time, got a text inviting him to a Thanksgiving dinner at 3 PM. While the text did not sound very familiar, he responded by asking who was it that was texting him. The stranger went on to reveal that she is Wanda Dench, simply saying “your Grandma,” topped off with the Grandma emoji. Since this didn’t solve the confusion, he asked “Grandma? Can I have a picture?”

He got a selfie in response and it was a total stranger. “You are not my grandma,” he wrote, then jokingly adding, “Can I still get a plate tho?” Dench replied the only way a grandma can: “Of course you can. That’s what grandma’s do … feed everyone.”

Here’s the original tweet from Hinton below:

It was announced by Hinton on Twitter that “The Thanksgiving Text,” and the pair released a statement about their excitement about the film.

“We are excited to share our story with the world. We hope it inspires more people to reach out and make connections that they wouldn’t ordinarily make. We are so blessed to find a genuine friendship brought together by God from a mistaken text message.”
