Grossly Misunderstood ‘Loki’ Character That Receives Most Underserved Hate Is Where Marvel Could Find Their Next Million Dollar Idea
- Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie receives undue hate despite her actions having a justifiable past of trauma.
- Sylvie is also partly hated because being Loki’s love interest goes against those who wanted Loki and Mobius to evolve romantically.
- Sylvie’s return to the MCU seems likely, whether in 'Doomsday', 'Secret Wars', 'Thor 5', or potentially leading another 'Loki 'season.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe deals with multiversal storylines now, and it can be said that the concept of the multiverse was introduced properly for the first time in Loki. The show portrayed Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie struggling to get to the truth of TVA.
However, the two variants took different approaches to achieve their goals, which resulted in a division of opinions among the viewers for the two. Although Loki Season 2 tries to bring closure to their stories, it looks like one variant that holds huge future potential has not been quite lucky with the audience’s reception.
Why the hate towards Sylvie is unjustified
Sylvie was introduced as a female Loki variant who was going rogue and destroying timelines in her quest to destroy the TVA. The finale of Loki Season 1 showed her killing He Who Remains, which triggered the branching of the sacred timeline. It activated the autodestruction of the Temporal Loom until Loki sacrificed his everything to maintain the balance of timelines.
Now, some viewers believe that it all happened because Sylvie couldn’t control her anger and personal grudges before killing He Who Remains, whereas Loki was ready to sacrifice his free will to prevent the multiversal chaos. But in her defense, neither Loki nor Sylvie were aware that killing He Who Remains would trigger the destruction of every new timeline.
After Loki Season 1, Sylvie went to live her own life in another timeline while Loki returned to a new version of TVA. They both believed that killing He Who Remains would neutralize TVA, and everyone would have their free will, which is exactly what Sylvie ever wanted. Fans have also expressed their opinions regarding this online.

Sylvie was abducted by TVA when she was a kid. Although it was vaguely mentioned that her possible nexus event was that she was a girl, it was never clearly mentioned why she was abducted. This caused her frustration, and it is justifiable as she spent thousands of years alone running away from TVA without knowing what her crime was.
It can be understood why she wanted to kill He Who Remains because according to her, he took her life away from her and is doing the same with many others. But as she realized that alternate timelines were getting destroyed, she returned to help Loki in Season 2.
One other reason for her hate is that she became Loki’s love interest, and many were rooting for a relationship between him and Mobius because of Loki’s queer identity and their on-screen chemistry. However, it doesn’t require Sylvie to be hated.
Will Sylvie return to the MCU?
Now that Loki has fulfilled his glorious purpose by giving everyone a second chance, it brings up the question of what happens to Sylvie next. The creators have already given her a sort of central role, next to Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki, that it is hard to digest that Sophia Di Martino‘s Sylvie won’t be seen again in the MCU.
The end of Loki Season 2 saw Sylvie back to her usual life again. As MCU is looking to end its multiversal saga, it seems likely that Sylvie might return again in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, as Loki is at the center of the multiverse, and she is one of the few who knows where he is.
Sylvie can possibly help the Avengers with the multiverse as she has enough experience with it and also has some close allies in the TVA. Apart from this, with the huge success of the first two seasons, the studio might be eyeing another Loki season, and it could potentially have Sylvie in the lead.
Besides, Sylvie is ultimately from Asgard, and Thor 5 could give her character arc closure by introducing her to fellow Asgardians, and she could potentially live a life she was never able to live. The possibilities are basically limitless in this vast multiverse of MCU.
Loki Season 1 and 2 are available to stream on Disney+.
