After years of fevered excitement from fans, Rockstar Games has finally lifted the curtain on the next chapter in the acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series. This morning, the storied video game developer unveiled the explosive first trailer for the tentatively titled Grand Theft Auto VI, giving fans their inaugural glimpse into GTA’s boundary-pushing new era.

The trailer opens with Lucia quipping, “Bad luck, I guess,” as she sits in a prison cell, marking the first time viewers are introduced to the series’ pioneering female lead. We then get tantalizing glimpses of the neon-drenched streets of Vice City, where the bulk of GTA 6 is set. Images of Lucia and a male partner-in-crime flash across the screen, hinting at a Bonnie and Clyde-esque dynamic for the game’s central characters.

Rockstar confirms that Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch in 2025, meaning fans still have some waiting ahead of them. But with a dazzling first look at Lucia and the seedy, alligator-infested streets of Vice City now revealed that anticipation is higher than ever.

Who is Lucia, GTA‘s First Female Protagonist?

While details remain slim, the trailer provides some insight into who Lucia is. She appears young, stylish, and more than capable of holding her own in the seedy underworld of Vice City. 

“The only way we’re gonna get through this is by sticking together and being a team,” she asserts to her boyfriend, 

positioning herself early on as a more sympathetic, teamwork-oriented character than the violent male antiheroes of previous GTA games.

For this pivotal role as GTA’s first female lead, Rockstar Games has tapped British actress Emily Barber, known for her roles in Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga and Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the trailer leaves no doubt that Lucia will usher in a bold new era for Grand Theft Auto.
