Will GOTG Vol. 3 Gross Over $1 Billion?

The likelihood that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be Marvel’s $1 billion film rises with the confirmation that the film will have its China release. Although the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films failed to reach this benchmark, they were still huge successes for the studio, grossing (worldwide) $773M and $863M, respectively.

The first film in the series did well in China, where it earned $86M, and the sequel brought in $100M.

With China’s support, the box office for James Gunn’s GOTG trilogy finale could rise significantly. Guardians of the Galaxy 3‘s box office will need to do well in China for it to surpass $1 billion, as that is significantly less than what each of the previous installments in those franchises made.

For the unversed, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made nearly $28 million in China over the weekend, Well, this start would be considered encouraging by many box office analysts in the current environment. But it would have been viewed as disappointing before the pandemic.

Given that it has been six years since the last Guardians of the Galaxy film hit theaters, excitement is at an all-time high to see Star-Lord, Rocket, Gamora, and other characters take center stage once again. Since they’ve spent the past few years playing supporting roles in other MCU series, the arrival of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will mark their eagerly anticipated comeback.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has already arrived in theaters on 5 May.
