Hawkeye Emmy Category Changed From Limited Series to Comedy Series, Hinting Season 2
Hawkeye is a television series by Jonathan Igla based on the Marvel Comics. It premiered on November 24, 2021, ran for six episodes, and concluded on December 22. on the streaming service Disney+. It received quite a mediocre response from the audience. Hawkeye, played by actor Jeremy Renner, is an avenger in New York City, striving to rescue Kate Bishop from the dangerous criminal underworld.
Disney’s Nomination Tweak gives New Hopes
According to Disney’s For Your Consideration (FYC) website, the series is no longer kept nominated for Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. Rather, the title has been changed to the Outstanding Comedy Series category.
While it is not certain why Disney could have done so but it surely raises a hint that there could be a sequel to Hawkeye. It is something to be taken note of that to get featured for the nominations for Emmy’s Outstanding Limited Series. Besides, Hawkeye is no longer considered a miniseries, which could also be a sign that the production is on to expand the theme.
Although, neither Disney nor Marvel has come up with a firm notification about the sequel. When asked, Rhys Thomas, the executive producer, and director of Hawkeye said, “I cannot speak to future plans in the tradition of secrecy. Again, the show coming out, you never know how it’s going to be received and it has been amazing to see how warmly people have taken it and enjoyed it. And it’s been great to see (Hailee Steinfeld’s) character embraced and sort of land so firmly in the MCU. I sincerely look forward to where that character goes next. And yes, I loved walking on the streets of the MCU and would gladly enjoy doing it again.”
This is not the first time when Disney has tweaked the suggested awards category for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Loki was also originally nominated for Outstanding Limited Series but after the show announced its second season, the nomination title switched.
