Hailee Steinfeld discusses the prospect of her Hawkeye character joining the MCU’s Young Avengers:
Hailee Steinfeld discusses the potential of her Hawkeye character joining the almost inevitable establishment of the Young Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hawkeye, Marvel Studios’ latest live-action series on Disney+, will recast Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton with newcomer Kate Bishop (Steinfeld). Bishop is slated to take up the Hawkeye mantle in the MCU, according to the character’s comic book narrative. As previously shown in Hawkeye promos and footage, Marvel appears to be loosely adapting Matt Fraction and David Aja’s 2013 standalone comic, My Life As A Weapon, which follows Barton in New York City and details his initial meeting with Bishop with Lucky the Pizza Dog. In addition to its stars, the series will include new characters such as Vera Farmiga as Bishop’s mother, Eleanor, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Fra Fee. Florence Pugh, who just appeared in Black Widow’s post-credits sequence, will reprise her role as Yelena Belova, who will likely become the MCU’s next Black Widow. With Maya Lopez, aka Echo (Cox), also expected to arrive in Hawkeye, it appears like Phase 4 is setting the groundwork for a slew of individuals who might eventually constitute the Young Avengers.
In a press conference sponsored by ComicBook.com, Steinfeld discussed the potential of her character joining the Young Avengers:
Steinfeld discussed the prospect of her character joining the Young Avengers during a Hawkeye news conference organized by ComicBook.com. Without saying much, the actress just expressed her gratitude for being a part of the MCU. Steinfeld admitted that she thought it was “weird” that she was sitting with the Hawkeye cast at all. Read on to find out what she had to say:
“I mean, simply being here with this gathering of individuals feels insane to me right now. I’m overjoyed to be a part of this program in this universe, and it’s only the beginning. This does not appear to be the case, therefore I’m looking forward to that day.”
Other Young Avengers have already appeared in Disney+ episodes produced by Marvel Studios:
Other Young Avengers have already appeared in Disney+ episodes produced by Marvel Studios. WandaVision, for example, included the Scarlet Witch’s offspring, Tommy/Speed (Jett Klyne) and Billy/Wiccan (Julian Hilliard), and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced Eli Bradley/Patriot (Elijah Richardson). Along with Steinfeld and Pugh’s characters, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), and Echo will feature in their separate series, Ms. Marvel, Iron Heart, and Echo. In addition, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) will appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before a mature Cassie Lang/Stature (Kathryn Newton) makes her debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. While the formal squad may not come together until Phase 5 or later, it’s reasonable to believe Kevin Feige and crew have a plan for the Young Avengers. The MCU is now focusing on its multiversal narrative. Iron Lad, a variation of Nathaniel Richards as Kang the Conqueror, is a major member of the Young Avengers in the comics. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have previously encountered another version of Kang in Loki’s He Who Remains (Johnathan Majors). Majors will play Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as well as a number of additional projects as the MCU’s new “Big Bad.” When Kang is destroyed, Iron Lad’s appearance is completely plausible in the future. In the comics, Richards discovers his wicked fate and travels back in time to live a more heroic life. This new version of himself is Iron Lad, and he establishes the Young Avengers. However, unless more real proof emerges, all of this is just fan conjecture. For the time being, all eyes will be on Steinfeld’s Bishop, who will make her film debut in Hawkeye on November 24.
