In Season 2, Netflix’s live-action One Piece series has confirmed the Baroque Works storyline by bringing in actor David Dastmalchian from The Suicide Squad and Ant-Man, among others.

In Season 2, Dastmalchian will portray Mr. 3, a cunning antagonist who is a part of the criminal group Baroque Works and possesses abilities from the Wax Wax devil fruit that allow him to generate and manipulate candle wax.

His casting was made public via an X post, where he is paired with Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, and Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5. Baroque Works assigns its agents in pairs: women with names derived from holidays and men named after numbers.

Fans have taken to X to express their excitement with the casting of Mr. 3 and applauding Dastmalchian’s previous roles.

Mr. 3 was the subject of Netflix’s first tease for the second season, as star Iñaki Godoy appeared on his character Luffy’s birthday with cake and a candle shaped like the villain’s hair.

The name Baroque Works may already be familiar to viewers of the acclaimed manga live-action adaptation, as the organization was mentioned in an early episode from Season 1 in which Zoro killed a red-haired Mr. 7.

Since Season 2’s September 2023 renewal, not much more has been revealed; however, it has been rumored that Netflix is aiming for a 2025 release window, with production set to start in June 2024. After expressing her interest in the part and the crew stating that “at this point we’re writing for her,” Jamie Lee Curtis is reportedly going to play a character named Doctor Kureha as well.

Other than that, Season 2 will offer the Netflix crew some intriguing challenges as it brings Tony Tony Chopper, a three-foot-tall human/reindeer hybrid, into the core cast. Another significant figure from Season 2 is also hinted at, with the hope that they will be fully addressed at some time in the season.
