* Spoiler alert *
With the dragons taking flight and mystery rekindling in House of the Dragon Season 2, one character’s controversial return has sparked a fervor among fans and critics alike. Ser Criston Cole, once a knight in shining armor, now finds himself embroiled in a social media firestorm after being charged with a dangerous Madonna-whore complex.
As his character grapples with his own feelings and the consequences of his actions, the hate train gains momentum. Will this transform him into the most divisive figure, or will it make him a fan-hated character?
Ser Criston Cole’s Return Ignites Debate: Misogyny or Complex Character in HOTD Season 2?
House of the Dragon Season 2 has recently begun, and this has revived a character many killed to see on screen again—but not in this capacity. The knight (Ser Criston Cole), whose affairs with the princess (Rhaenyra Targaryen) were the source of so much gossip in Season 1, is at the core of scandal (once again!) HOTD enthusiasts are raving over his portrayal of the unfortunate Madonna—where women are simply divided into two types—the virgins and the sluts.

Off late, some of the show’s episodes have sparked criticism, concerning Ser Criston’s conduct. Fans point out how his character is nothing but a misrepresentation of misogyny, with many accusing him of having a “raging Madonna-whore complex.” Others assert that his failure to challenge male lust (with the show’s rigid ethical standards) does pointedly demonstrate the double standards of American society.

This resurgence of criticism echoes the debates that occurred during Season 1. Some viewers believe Ser Criston makes the show rather intricate and unique, while others find it completely unacceptable (as Ser Criston merely reiterates destructive tropes). Despite this, it will still be quite interesting to see if the character starts the process of regaining virtue, or continues to polarize the fanbase.
Fabien Frankel Talks about Filming House of the Dragon at the Same Place as Gladiator
The House of the Dragon star Fabien Frankel reveals an exciting crossover with the famous movie Gladiator. Part of the series’ recent episodes were filmed in Bourne Wood, the very location where Gladiator was filmed.
Staying silent to prevent any spoilers, Frankel described it as a “once in a lifetime experience” and an “absolute beast of an episode”. Alongside co-star Freddie Fox (Ser Gwayne Hightower), showrunner Ryan Condal, and director Alan Taylor, Frankel spent weeks filming at the historic location. Over the course, Frankel became good friends with Fox, complimenting him on his warmth, wit, and brilliance.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before Game of Thrones.
