The StageCraft technology got quite famous after The Mandalorian used the same to bring a galaxy far, far away to life. But Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 won’t be utilizing the same technology.

Writer and director James Gunn confirmed the same news as he responded to a fan on Twitter, explaining to them that the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie’ sets are just too big to employ the Industrial Light and Magic’s tech.

But that didn’t end there when another Twitter user noted the film’s “set design and prop teams have a dream job,” Gunn gave a funny and wise reply saying ” My guess is right now they think otherwise as they rush to finish our sets in time (thanks to all the folks working hard on those sets right now!)”

For those who don’t know much and are unfamiliar with the ILM’s StageCraft technology; it actually involves filming live actors and practical set pieces while being surrounded by some high-definition LED video walls displaying computer-generated backdrops. The Mandalorian was the first show to shoot on one of such soundstages which are commonly referred to as the “Volumes”. This technology is also being used for the much anticipated upcoming Mandalorian spinoff called “The Book of Boba Fett” in addition to the Obi-Wan Kenobi Limited series and reportedly, The Acolyte.

Apart from the Star Wars universe, there are other movies listed on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming sequels; Thor: Love and Thunder and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, both are actually utilizing the StageCraft tech. Taika Waititi is directing Thor and Peyton Reed is directing Ant-Man and have both previously worked with ILM’s tech while helming at least one episode of The Mandalorian.
