“He’s in it 100%”: X-Men’ 97 Creator’s Latest Comment is Enough to Convince Fans Spider-Man is Teaming up With X-Men Again
Spider-Man fans can rejoice because the beloved web-slinger might be teaming up with the X-Men once again. X-Men: The Animated Series (which ran from 1992 to 1997) was a staple for many fans growing up.
Now, its continuation, X-Men ’97, has stirred excitement. This is especially true because of a subtle Easter egg in the series hinting that Spider-Man might make a comeback. Moreover, a new comment from the creator of X-Men ’97 has convinced fans that it might become a reality.
Is Spider-Man Joining the X-Men ’97?
In the 1990s, X-Men: The Animated Series was a big hit, featuring lots of mutants from Marvel comics. It also had cameos from other Marvel heroes like Spider-Man and Captain America, and there were even crossovers with Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
Now, Marvel has brought back the ’90s vibe with a revival, X-Men ’97. Some fans are wondering if this new show could somehow connect with Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which ended with a cliffhanger involving Spider-Man and his love interest, Mary Jane, being taken into the multiverse by Madame Web.
In an interview with Men’s Health, Brad Winderbaum (the executive producer of X-Men ’97 and head of streaming, television, and animation for Marvel Studios) spoke about the possibility of a Spider-Man crossover with the new series:
“We have a great executive who works for us named Drew River, who manages the continuity of the timeline. And obviously that becomes more complex as you enter the multiverse saga and tracking multiple timelines. X-Men ’97 fits into that ’90s timeline, along with the OG series, as well as those concurrent ’90s shows that would sometimes cross over with the X-Men. The potential is always there. Without going into spoiler territory, the original show does have a lot of fun cameos, and ’97 carries that torch.”
There’s even a quick peek at a Daily Bugle newspaper headline in the X-Men ’97 trailer that reads, “Text by Eddie Brock/Photos by Peter Parker,” and also asks the question: “Is Spider-Man a Mutant?” This has fans wondering if Spider-Man from Spider-Man: The Animated Series could be making an appearance.
To make things even more exciting, the creator of X-Men ’97 stated that Spider-Man will appear in the series. When an X user asked him, “Tell us if Spider-Man will show up to that would make my life complete.” Beau DeMayo mysteriously replied, “Just have to wait.”

This further amped up things. Though DeMayo didn’t explicitly assert that Spider-Man would make an appearance, he also didn’t deny it completely.
What This Means for Fans?
For lots of fans, the thought of Spider-Man joining forces with the X-Men is like a dream come true. Both X-Men: The Animated Series and Spider-Man: The Animated Series were cornerstones of Saturday morning cartoons in the 90s. Seeing these two franchises collide in X-Men ’97 would be a major nostalgia trip for viewers. Check out some fan reactions:
