- The timeless aspect of high school romance makes it a treat for fans of all ages.
- Uka and Kai are relatable characters who go through real issues.
- Their relationship is an ideal one, making everyone hooked to their story.
Age is just a number when it comes to liking shows that are meant to be for teenagers. This is the same reason why even adults enjoy their favorite animated shows from childhood.
So, when Honey Lemon Soda, a fairly generic high school romance, is getting famous in this Winter 2025 anime lineup, it should not be that surprising. It has everything a romance fan can ask for; a dynamic relationship between two very contrasting people and heart-thumping developments.
There are many factors that come into play that make a show like Honey Lemon Soda evergreen and appeal to a wide range of ages. The times may change, but innocent romance will remain, and this anime seems to follow that to a tea.
High school romances are everlasting
For many, high school is one of the most important transitional periods of their lives. It is in this place that a teenager takes their first step towards adulthood, and amidst this change, they crave an unforgettable love escapade.
While many of us may miss out on such a chance, the longing for that experience remains. Hence, when we have a show that effectively taps into a universally appealing theme of love, self-discovery, and youth, it is bound to attract everyone.

Whether a person has faced love or only dreamt of it in their high school phase, they will still be attracted to such a tale. Therefore, Honey Lemon Soda appeals to that inner teenager who revisits their younger days while witnessing two characters going through the beauty and hardships of life.
Why is Honey Lemon Soda special?
At its core, the story is a classic introverted girl meets an extroverted boy, but there’s more to it than what meets the eye. Ishimori Uka is a shy and almost emotionless sheltered girl who has been bullied throughout her middle school. Her peers would ignore her and pretend she didn’t exist, comparing her to a rock and even calling her ‘ishi’ to reinstate that.
However, her life changes when, one day, she bumps into Miura Kai, who is exactly the opposite of her. With bright blonde hair and a laidback attitude, he sticks out like a flame. Though he is more extroverted than Uka, his distant and cool attitude also makes him unapproachable at first. He becomes the catalyst for influencing Uka to join his high school, which is not for a straight-laced girl like her.
The reason why both Uka and Kai are a treat to watch is because of how relatable they are to common people. Uka’s anxiety about being ignored is a feeling everyone goes through. Plus, Kai’s cold yet supportive and protective nature reminds us how appearances can be deceiving. It might seem that they are an ill-fitting couple, but as one becomes a part of their journey, they can notice Uka and Kai’s connection.
Uka and Kai are a green-flag couple
Healthy relationships are so hard to find these days that whenever we see one, we become hooked. Uka and Kai’s relationship has that kind of pull toward them because of how special they are to each other.
Uka, who starts high school with no confidence, slowly transitions into a strong girl who is clear about her feelings. She comes out of her shell and is the first one to realize her love for Kai.
Kai is also a complex character beneath his cool facade. He comes to the rescue of Uka, even when they do not know each other. As a classic Tsundere, he might pretend he doesn’t care, but we notice him be protective of her from day one.

Yes, modern high school romances will adapt to current times, but the core values of love will not change. While the realities of life may not be as heartwarming, it feels great to see something that inspires hope in all of us.
