Gotham’s Caped Crusader is set to return in a new animated series. The production of Batman: Caped Crusader was announced back in May 2021. Reportedly, the leading streaming giant went on to announce two seasons of the upcoming Batman-led animated series.
Batman: Caped Crusader Has Found A New Home At Amazon Prime
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Prime Video has ordered two installments of the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader. In a cutthroat competition with other streaming giants including Netflix, Hulu, and Apple, Amazon Prime nabbed the rights from Warner Bros. Discovery for Batman: Caped Crusader. The move came to light after Warner Bros. Discovery included third-party buyers to monetize the content.
As per the media outlet THR, during the announcement of the upcoming animated series’ production J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves spoke about how thrilling and enigmatic the series would be. The director duo mentioned-
“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic, and evocative of the Caped Crusader’s noir roots while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”
As the production of Batman: Caped Crusader is back on track, DC fans are anxiously waiting for every detail with respect to the animated series.
Batman: Caped Crusader’s Writer Claims The Series Is Much Darker Than The Original Animated Series
During an interview with Comic Book Club on YouTube, writer and executive producer Ed Brubaker spoke about Batman: Caped Crusader. He claimed that the upcoming series is focussed more on the noir tone and violence in comparison to the previous animated shows based on the Caped Crusader. According to Brubaker, the series highlights the actual vision of the famous animator and producer Bruce Timm. He said-
“I’ll warn you guts, it’s definitely a lot different than The Animated Series. It’s very much a reconception of starting over… It’s not PG-13, but it’s definitely, it’s a lot different. It’s sort of like the show Bruce Timm always wanted to make, but that they wouldn’t let him make.
He further continued to say-
There’s a lot more, you know, people actually getting punched on camera, and… I don’t want to spoil it for you guys, but it’s – everyone will kill me if I say it, but it’s kind of noir. It’s definitely a different take that I hope people will love, but I think people will also be shocked by some things.”
Eric Radomski and Bruce Timm led Batman: The Animated Series is still considered one of the best-animated versions based on the Caped Crusader. Released in 1992, the massive success of Batman: The Animated Series went on to construct the path for Superman: The Animated Series back in 1996. As of now no release date or cast list has been announced for Batman: Caped Crusader.
